i am so glad to have found this group. its good to know they are a lot more people out there who feel the same way i do on this issue. in the few years i have owened pits, i have found this breed to be very loyal and friendly.its all in who raises them and how they are raised.i have had animals my entire life(grew up on family farm)so i have had quite a few experiences with animals.i have vowed from now on i will always have pits or any other misunderstood breed so that maybe i can prove to people that its just a reputation and these dogs are very misunderstood. i write this while my two pits and my cat are sleeping beside me.

What are they going to ban next small dogs like poms or dashounds, most people are afraid of what will happen because of the dogs heritage like pit bulls are know as gladiators from the dog fights but what people don't know is how smart and gentle each dog really is , my neighbour has a american eskimo dog who was abused by an old man, she saved this dog, the dog was agressive towards men, but after three months of working with this dog 'Mitsy' I helped this dog, she would let me pet her, walk and play with her she is a beautiful dog and she is very sweet.

Everyone says descrimination with race is wrong among us humans.But have they ever thought about descrimanation with dogs is wrong.The people out there that say it is wrong i applaud you.But those who think its fine is like saying descrimantion with race is right.What kind of bull is that?Bottom line All breeds of dogs are unique and differnent and all of them deserve a chance.

i have also loved and forever love any animal no matter on the breed color or whatever ,but some reason i always end up with pits ,but what i always say its not the animal its the owner what you teach is what they know....and if you love that will make them grow into the most wonderful baby in the world .... ilove my oreo and simon for life...

I have recently become the owner of a beautiful boy as well hes a 100 pound rottie who came from a rescue.
alreday not in my home a week and we are being targeted by ppl who assume things about the breed.
its tiresome but necessary to educate those ppl about proper dog ownership and training so they learn these and other targeted breeds really are just a bunch of furry angels who are capable of love and honor and respect.
which is more then most human beings I have the misfortune of knowing.

I have I German Shepherd Dog named Karma. She is also more of a best friend to me than many people could ever be. A lot of people that I know don't think dogs have feelings but they do. When my husband and I come home from work she goes crazy because shes so happy to see us. Now tell me thats not having feelings? She is so loyal to my husband and me. I think its not the breed that makes a dog aggressive it is the way they are raised by their owner. Don't get me wrong Karma does like to bark when a stranger is knocking on our door once she gets to know you she'll be playful with you. We are military so we have people come into our house a lot. I think people need to STOP sterotyping the breeds of dogs like GSD, Pitbulls, Rottweilers etc. Like I said before its the how the dog is brought up by its owner!

This subject is touchy with so many people, but yet true. It is not the dogs fault that they are being discriminated against. As a child my parents have always had dogs around me. I grew up with German Shepards and Doberman's as house dogs, they were the best brothers and sisters that I ever had. They would listen to my stories and keep my secrets; (yeah, go ahead and laugh now, but I guarantee you, if you are a dog lover as I am, you have found yourself talking to your dogs on occasion and actually getting a response from them (LOL)). But, becuase of the reputation that American Pit Bulls and all similar breeds of the Pit Bull Families, my mother was against me having one.

So, as an Adult, I made it my mission of have a Pit Bull dog.
Well you know what? He may be a Pit Mix with Chocolate Lab, but he is the smartest dogs I have ever had. He tattle-tails on my son when he doesn't get feed or if he has run out of water. He alerts me when there is something strange going on outside and most of all he is the best roach catcher ever.

My neighbors have targetted me on occasion because I am a dog owner of not one, but of two targeted breeds that have been discriminated against. I also have a Handsome Doberman and loves to play with my son. He nearly died on us when he was a pup, but with prayers and persistence, he survived. I am glad that he is a part of our lives. All of my dogs hold a special spot in our lives and we would not be the caring, loving and relaxed people that we are without our dogs.

To all of you out there that understand what it is like to have a dog there at home waiting for you to walk in the door and for them to greet you with the excitement and joy that only they can give, truely do understand what it means to be a DOG LOVER, regardless of their breed it is the way that they are raised and who they are raised around that determines the outcome of their personality.

Keep a child locked in a dark room and they will be shy and unsure of the world beyond the dark room. Beat another child and he will turn out to be an abusive husband or wife, father or mother. Well the same goes for the dogs.

It is the love, care and attention that we give them or lack of in some cases, that determines their deminor and personality. For all of those people who raise PIT BULLS strickly for fighting, should be sentenced harshly by the officicals and they should be treated as they have treated these dogs, any dogs.

The canine breed was put on this earth of be MAN'S BEST FRIEND not a VICTIM of Hatered and DISTRUCTION!!!!!!!!!!

Its sad but what causes breed discrimination is lack of information. People approach my chihuahua with caution and grab their children's hands when he is walking by... One day a little girl ran up to him and grabbed him, picked him up and he just stood in her arms like a baby, belly exposed, head leaned back. The mother was freaking out, as a lot of people do when they meet him. Chihuahuas are "known" to have quite the attitude... I try my best to prove that theory wrong. I've owned pit bulls before too, and they have got to be one of the smartest, loving and loyal breeds out there.
What matters is how they are raised... Discriminating against a particular breed is comparable to being racist.
