Stopping Guillermo Vargas Habacuc

Guillermo Vargas Habacuc's idea of "art" is starving dogs and putting them on display for everyone to see. Someone has to stop this! Go to http://www.petitiononline.com/ea6gk/petition.html to sign the petition to stop this.

In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took
a dog from the street,
tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved
him to death.

For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of
the exhibition have
watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based
on the dog's agony,
until eventually he died.

But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts
Biennial of the Central
American decided that the 'installation' was
actually art, so that
Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat
his cruel action for the
biennial of 2008.

PLEASE HELP STOP HIM!

Does this look like art to you?

I agree with many of you, maybe he should starve himself and put it on display. SICK SICK SICK!! I hope this Visual Arts
Biennial of the Central American has people around it up in arms - to the point of protesting the gallery. That's what I'd do if I lived near there.

the nerve of this person saying that the dog was starving and was going to die anyway he is the perfect example of an idiot who does he think he is GOD, what he should of done was display the horror of the conditions there instead of calling this art i will gladly sign a petition and anything else i can do to stop the outragious buls--t from going on please keep everyone informed the situation irene

It is very worrying that an animal could have been used to make a point in an exhibition. I decided to read up on the matter hoping to find out if it might just be a sick publicity stunt by the 'artist'. This link gives a balanced viewpoint:

Unfortunately the 'artist' in question has become a household name and may ultimately benefit from this publicity.
Using his logic, his next work would be of a homeless person left to die because nobody cared, where would it end?
Please stop this person, he is cold and heartless and an insult to all humans on this planet.

This is just another reminder of how CRUEL people can be - all for art or fashion! Is digusting and the people who went and viewed this, doing NOTHING to help this innocent animal are actually worse than the wanna be artist.
To be so cruel and inhumane is terrible but to stand around and do nothing about the abuse is worse! We have to speak for those who can't speak for themselves. STOP ANIMAL Abuse TODAY.

From the Animal Legal Defense Fund:
At this point, we feel the most effective method of protest is to write local animal protection agencies demanding they put a stop to this exhibit. You can search for agencies here in the Latin America/Caribbean section at

http://worldanimalnet.org/

EMAIL THESE GALLERIES AND TELL THEM TO PUT A STOP TO THIS HORRIBLE CRUELTY.

There is also a petition:

LET'S ALL GET TOGETHER AND PUT A STOP TO THIS!!!

From the Humane Society of United States:

Q. Is it true that a Central American artist used a starving dog in an art exhibit?

We are aware of this story and have asked our contacts in Central America for more information. According to local animal welfare organizations, the dog was in a state of starvation when he was captured from the street for display in the exhibit. We have also been informed that the dog spent one day in the exhibit and later escaped the gallery. We do not condone the actions of this so-called "artist," and condemn the use of live animals in exhibits such as this. An animal welfare organization in Honduras, where the next art show will be held, is keeping close watch on the case and assures us that the artist will not repeat his objectionable exhibit.

Sadly, thousands of street dogs in Central America are in as poor shape as this one. HSI works throughout the world to prevent the circumstances that allow such a tragic event to take place. We encourage you to learn more about our street animal welfare programs.

(They were informed that the dog spent one day in the exhibit and later escaped the gallery, it doesn't mean that this was the truth. Of coarse they are going to save their own A _ _ and say this. In the condition that the dog was in, I don't think he could of ran to escape.)

That is digusting. I don't know how people could call this art and stand to watch it.

Good, and that picture looks like exactly what the dogs do to my poor Cricket who is a very good patient kitty. Two of my young puppies are climbing all over him, biting his ears and licking him, he doesn't seem to mind, however when they dogs sit o…
