Stopping Guillermo Vargas Habacuc

Guillermo Vargas Habacuc's idea of "art" is starving dogs and putting them on display for everyone to see. Someone has to stop this! Go to http://www.petitiononline.com/ea6gk/petition.html to sign the petition to stop this.

In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took
a dog from the street,
tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved
him to death.

For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of
the exhibition have
watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based
on the dog's agony,
until eventually he died.

But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts
Biennial of the Central
American decided that the 'installation' was
actually art, so that
Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat
his cruel action for the
biennial of 2008.

PLEASE HELP STOP HIM!

Does this look like art to you?

Oh my god! This is absolutely disgusting and I think this man deserves to die a very slow and painful death! And the people who just stood by, doing nothing to help the poor animal? It boggles my mind how anyone could justify that to themselves. Although, to be honest, it really doesn't surprise me that this happened. Many countries, including most in central/south american do not have any respect for animal life and dogs especially are treated like pieces of garbage. That is the reason I will NEVER go to a country with that general mentality. I would end up in jail.

Snopes.com has yet to confirm, as of April 14, 2008, whether the "circumstances" of the exhibit where as commonly represented.

Sign The Petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/13031953/petition.html

Blog Remember Natividad:
http://reiskeks-natividad.blogspot.com/2007/10/guillermo-habacuc-vargas-admits-on-his.html

Natividad is the Spanish word for "birth". It was the name of the poor dog starved in public in the name of "art". The "artist" was not only not punished, but won also the first prize and was chosen a representative of the entire country!
The boycott-petition was started by Mr.Jaime Sancho - jaime.sancho@gmail.com, his page is http://www.ea6gk.org/. If you need the most fresh, original, first hand information, please visit his page or send him an e-mail :-)

Mr.Jaime Sancho, who is a member of several Spanish based animal welfare organizations, started the petition after 100% reliable and serious coverage of the happenings in the Spanish based media. The most known article - from the biggest and most serious online newspaper in Costa Rica - can be found here: http://www.nacion.com/...aldea1263590.html

Right after the coverage in the Spanish based media, several animal welfare organizations protested against this cruelty and the fact, that the "artist" won the first prize and was chosen a representative of Costa Rica at the Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008.

Additionally, here is the link to the blog, who posted the first photos, the blog owner, Mr.Rodrigo Peñalba, is another real and existing witness of the happenings (but not willing to contribute, as he did not help the dog, and now afraid of harassment): http://www.marcaacme.com/...habacuc

PETA was already informed days ago, alongside with other major animal welfare and animal rights organizations, by dozens of concerned and angry real people. According to the most recent answers, PETA is already involved and investigating the case, but this needs of course time. If you would like to alert PETA yourself, here is the contact form: http://www.peta.org/about/c-email_peta.asp

You can also add a comment to the PETA blog, as direct contact: http://blog.peta.org/

Here is a part of his original statement: "Hello everyone. My name is Guillermo Habacuc Vargas. I am 50 years old and an artist. Recently, I have been critisized for my work titled "Eres lo que lees", which features a dog named Nativity. The purpose of the work was not to cause any type of infliction on the poor, innocent creature, but rather to illustrate a point. In my home city of San Jose, Costa Rica, tens of thousands of stray dogs starve and die of illness each year in the streets and no one pays them a second thought. Now, if you publicly display one of these starving creatures, such as the case with Nativity, it creates a backlash that brings out a big of hypocrisy in all of us. Nativity was a very sick creature and would have died in the streets anyway.”

Guillermo Vargas Jiménez whose "artist name" is Habacuc, is approximately 30 years old and has changed his statement, depending on how the public reactions are - first statement was "the dog would have died anyway" - second statement was "I cannot say if the dog died or not" - third statement was "I wanted to do it to remember Mr. Natividad Canda" [the burglar killed by guard dogs] - fourth statement was "I did the exhibition to show the terrible situation of street dogs".... etc...

For more REAL data about the “artisit” please go to:

All of the information above was obtained on the Remember Navitidad Blog reference above.
