In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took
a dog from the street,
tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved
him to death.
For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of
the exhibition have
watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based
on the dog's agony,
until eventually he died.
But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts
Biennial of the Central
American decided that the 'installation' was
actually art, so that
Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat
his cruel action for the
biennial of 2008.
PLEASE HELP STOP HIM!

The dog did not starve to death, she died of thirst. Vargas should be chained up within inches of fresh water and allowed to suffer the same fate. Thirty years I have been an animal rights activist and nothing has bothered me like this. Yes, animals all over the third world die of thirst and hunger all the time. But for ART? And to have this crime rewarded with a prize? It makes me never want to visit Latin America again.

Do online petitions ever actually achieve anything, other than spreading awareness? I've signed it, and have encouraged my friends to also, but can't help wondering if we're wasting our time...
As I've said before, art is everywhere. There's so much beauty in the world as it is that no creature or person should ever have to suffer for our entertainment. To permit this once was an act of gross barbarism. Allowing it to happen a second time is beyond horrifying! I know this isn't my place to rant, I'm here to show my support for the group & for the voiceless, innocent creatures of the world.

Comment by Armando on June 2, 2008 at 2:14am - IMPORTANT!!!! many countries have ratified international treaties against cruelty to animals, they also have local regulation for this matter, as soon as this man tries to do the same thing in your country PRESS CHARGES AGAINST HIM!!! now, if the country does not have any laws for this, you can always use smoke bombs.... and well, use your imagination, you know the rest.... Or, you could pay a hit man office. killing this bastard by tying him to a tree and letting him starve is something that can be arranged by paying your local mafia... hell! if he ever comes to my beautiful Colombia, trust me, he's not getting out.

People such as him are just such pieces of work; I'm sure he knew this would get him publicity. He's not an artist, he's just another idiot that doesn't deserve acknowledgement....
