Well another night of bringing him upstairs this time it didnt last long he hung out for a while chased my other male a little rougher than last night and then proceeded to cry CONSTANTLY until I gave him attention - I beleive I have created a monster based on books I have read I think I have made him clingy to me he shows all the signs (based on the book) and hence wanted to go back down into the basement after a few hours - Maybe I rushed it too much last night keeping him upstairs all night but he seemed so happy basically being upstairs with no intention of wanting to go back downstairs; this time he seemed bored especially since none of the other three cats hung around even the male Frankie, and it was up to me to give him some attention last night he didnt want to be around me at all ; tonight all he did was follow me around and cry if I didnt pet him. ANy suggestions?? He is being fostered and I will be taking him sometime to the PetSMart for adoption day when an opening opens but I would like to break him of this clingy thing cause if not, and if he is adopted he might be returned - I really love this boy he is really sweet - Any more suggestions from everyone would GREATLY be apprecaited! should I keep doing what I am doing a little everynigh?!?! CONFUSED what to do - It breaks my heart to see him unhappy (at least I think he is)
THanks Karin and Monkey
Wow Karin,
Until I read this I would have never imagined how giving a kitten so much love and attention could end up being a bad thing (sorta speak)
I don't know what to tell you other than try ignoring him a little bit. None of mine are that clingy but I have one that insists on jumping on my table and sitting on my computer while I'm on it. It's a battle of up down up down. Eventually he catches on and stops but so irritating until that happens.
Maybe if you show this little guy that you are all about the love but not so much the full-blown attention, in time he will figure it out.
He obviously wants to play but if none of your other babies do - then it falls on you and lord, don't we oblige them????
Just ignore him bit by bit - that sounds so harsh but it may work. It will show him you love him, feed him and are there for him but NOT with the constant one-on-one.
Thanks Kathy I did have him up again last night not as much crying this time and he seemed to just be around the girls who dont wan to be with him be they seem to tolerate him letting him sit near them "kinda" and he was up stairs from 6pm to around 12 midnight he did cry and I called him to me (I was oin the couch) and he came over and did lay in the living room with us for a bit but I put him downstairs when I went to bed. Now today I brought him up leaving the basement door open he stayed for a while but with the girls hissing or ignored hime and he just went back downstairs (safe room) so when I see him up at the basement door I'll move the fence and allow him to come and go as he pleases hoping that none goes down cause I KNOW there will be aLot of hissing down there in "his" territory> I guess this is the best I can do for now and keep going the "slow" route He is such a loving boy It just breaks my heart to think he is sad and lonely (maybe hes not - but I just feel that way)
Thanks for your response I really appreciate it!

I can share some tip with if he is not spied he will do that because you have other male in the house he want to make sure you won't forget him you need to bring them together all in one room then start to play with their toys if they have toys if they don't buy them cats toys and just play with it they will see you playing they all will start to play and also keep always the litter clean male cats don't like to smell of others male cats smell they are very territorial and also give them attention to all of them together pet them and talked to them animals do understand us when we talked to them I do have 19 cats and all of them were stray kittens found them when they were only 2 weeks and 3 weeks I raised them all together some of them I found one by one when the others grew up and they were showing this kind behavior but when I start to pets them together and play with them they all started to get long with each other some of them right after they got fixed and one right now who is 6 month old wants to go out side because he need to be fixed so try this he will stop and right after he got fixed you will see the changed good luck and god blessed you a lot with with your loved ones you are a sweet soul blessed your heart dear!!!
