We were sitting on our couch and our kitten Shea jumped on us and we noticed something white coming out of her backside... after looking closer we realized it was moving. I quickly went to get the number for the vet and the earliest they can see her is Friday at 2pm. We would go to an emergency clinic but the ones around here cost well over $150 just to talk to the Vet. So we are waiting till Friday as she doesnt seem ill and is still extremely active and eating normally. However we have 2 cats and are now worried that Thai may have them as well. She has had her shots but is due for another set.
Anyways we put them in seprate rooms with seprate litter boxes and food dishes so that we are able to get stool samples from each. But in the meantime I'm very worried it may be pin worms which are transferable to humans. So I'm wondering what we should be doing to insure the parasite is out of the house and we wont and do not already have them.
If anyone has any pointers it'd be extremely helpful. We are very worried about them and what exactly these worms could do.
Again it was thin and white with a larger circle and the one end. If you've seen something like this and could tell me what it may be that would help too!

Thanks so much!

Alicia and Brent

Thanks so much! Thats alot of information!
So in a nut shell we shouldnt be worried about contracting worms from ourCats?
Although Im sure there is some sort of worm that may be transferable, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see what the vet says friday! And in the meantime clean the house really well! :)
Thank you so much Michael we appreciate the information!

I wasnt looking for medical advice, I'm already taking her to the vet. I was looking for advice about what to do when your cat has worms. As in cleaning and what some peoples experinces are with cats with worms. And I was wondering if anyone had had something like what we saw.
My mother was the one that mentioned Pinworms so I thought I'd mention them on here aswell.
I didnt mean to cause any trouble. I do know this isnt a place to come for a medical diagnoisis.
And yes I am smart enough to take my cat to the vet! Thanks for noticing Michael :P lol!

Turns out little Shea has a Tape worm! :( The Vet gave her a pill that will kill it instantly but it may come back if a part of it found a damp spot outside of her body to live till it can get back to one of our cats.
But other than that shes a healthly little kitten weighing about 2kg with a good heart and lungs! :) And we also found out she is actually 4 months old not 5 and half like we thought. I guess the lady we got her from had no idea when she was born!
Anyways thought I'd leave an update!
Thanks again for all the pointers! :)

That is what it sounded like it was to me when I first read your post.... a tape worm. They can be quite ugly and alarming and sometimes very long (as far as the size)... and they will often make their way out of an animal's body, and not fun for the animal infected or the person who is seeing something like this for the first time!
Michael... thanks so much for your input. Sounds like you did a bit of research, and it is appreciated by most.
I think what you did was appropriate. Alicia could have done the same, but you saved her the time by doing the research yourself and posting it for her. That was good of you, and negativity about a post with facts is the last thing that needs to be perpetuated.
This is one reason why I have not been as active here as I once was, someone always wants to post something that is negative. If you don't have something nice or informative/inquiring to add, I believe it should be kept to one's self.
Advice from doing research is great... and I for one do not confuse it as being a diagnosis or trying to give medical advice. I take it as a bit of information that is good to know, so don't let it keep you from posting information such as the explanation about pin worms, especially since you evidently found some good resources and researched the issue.
Thanks for that, Michael and others who take the time out to give info such as this, it certainly doesn't hurt and may even help, especially when it has been made clear that the furbabie(s) in question will be going to the vet for professional medical care.
Take care and God Bless... Wendy :)
