THE "TAILS" OF A MULTI-DOG HOUSEHOLD

I live with ten dogs. Are there any others out there who live with many dogs in their house as a big family? I would love to hear all the pros and cons, ups and downs and just day to day "tails" of a multi-dog household. Pls tell me I'm not alone!

I have six, two big ones and four small ones. I also have a daycare so it gets pretty crazy sometimes. The most recent two were rescue dogs. It also gets very expensive but I found a great vet who helps by showing us how to get by cheaper on flea meds and I get heartworm pills from Canada for much cheaper. That helps! If you want more info on that let me know. Conni f

As in the case of my hands on rescue Tristan he is standoffish towards some people. The last racing kennels was also a horders paradise. 30 greyhounds to take care of a fulltime job on the side. Kennels with a buildup of fecalmatter a stench of amonia poor Tristan had intestinel parasites blakish teeth from tartar urinescoldings on both thighs belly and chest he was almost emaciated dull coat and sad bewildered eyes in contrast his coat is growing back slowly but surely. he is beginning to play with toys has a lot more energy his coat shines his teeth are clean breath fresh ect in other words he is thriving. To have him is a priveledge. To get him away from his former "owner" was a great feeling. He has his forever home with me and my three other hounds. I can´t let them down ever. When I decide to have a new familymember it is after careful consideration everything has to fall into place not just for the hound in question but also for me. The rest of my pack must be considered carefully they must not lack for anything if one more is introduced to the pack. Therefore I have decided that my limits have been reached. They are well cared for in every way. vet bills can be paid insurance coats collars leashes toys treats of the best quality. If I could not give them that I will/would not keep them. They also need time for cuddels walks stimuli consideration ect. It is a huge responsibillity. However I am enjoying every minute with them and will cherish them as long as they and I live. Lisbeth and the lads.

I know what that can be like...the mass rescue we were a part of last year, most of those dogs were like that...it took a long time to get some of those dogs to trust humans again...its so sad to see what another human can do to ruin a good animal.

Kosmo is making great strides but we can see he is becoming really bonded to both of us. So it's going to be hard to let him go. He comes right to my lap and lays his head wanting to be made over and loved. He was so starved for affection when we got him that he literally "cringed" if you went to pet his head and make over him.

I do know what you mean. I have also seen some to make me literally sick. My first rescue was a female Sibe that we called Lady. She had been dumped at my neighbor's mother's house. She was starved to the point of being skin and hair over bones, couldn't stand or walk, barely lifted her head to gobble the canned dog food we gave her, and had to be carried to our van by my husband. My neighbor had called us because the Dog Pound had been called and we needed to get there before them to keep her from being put down. She showed signs of possibly having been hit by a car due to the limp she had. It took months to get the girl back to descent shape so she could be adopted by a minister and his family. I am listed for my kennel ads differently as mine also lists- Rescues and not just selling pups.

The two breeders I have purchased from I have sent pictures to, and one I got a birthday card from on Juneau's first Birthday. She (the breeder) passed away recently, but it was a good experience.

In rescue I have seen my fair share of messed up sibes, and it really is a shame. It probably has made me more cynical than I should be sometimes...but I don't regret a moment of it.

I do too the realy good breeders are hard to find. You are one of the best and best wishes for you and Kosmo poor little mite I hope he gets through his ordeals. Darcy´s former owner and breeder is as caring as you are and it is a priveledge to get a dog from good breeders like you. Thank you and cudos for doing the right thing for your offspring. Lisbeth and the lads.

And after listening many times to the woman insult our dogs, his relatives and him- she wonders why I got to the point that I could NOT even be civil to her. Any idiot who can't understand when the vet, dog trainers they contacted and breeder tell her that the behavior she is complaining about is typical puppy behavior! She should have bought a stuffed dog.

A lot of breeders DON'T care because they are only in it for the money. Our pups are like "grandchildren" to us. That's part of the reason I got soooo upset with the wife of the couple that bought Kosmo who we had to pick up in June. He left here a confident happy little boy and I got back a "shell" of a dog. He had many "issues" that my husband and I are working on. He is terrified of so many things: storms, birds, strangers, other dogs, etc.

SibeLady, that is outstanding. I really wish more breeders would step up like you have.
