vacation with the dogs
We are planning on going to Tenn. this Christmas and we want to take our 3 lab/shep dogs(60-70lbs each) with us. Any good tips that we should know before we take this adventure? lol

Practice, practice, practice. Get them used to travel now. Work on their basic obedience skills. They will be much more fun as travel companions, and welcome as guests if they are well-mannered.
If you are staying with friends or relatives check into their expectations or limitations. Are the dogs OK in the living room? How about the furniture? How about early or late dog walks. You should also ask about house plants or other possible health risks. You can check the Animal Poison Control section of the ASPCA website for information on home safety.

Thank you for your reply. We will be staying in a "dogs welcome" cabin in the mountains. They are teen-age dogs so they are out of the chewing stage.I heard one of those "gates" that you put in your suv to keep them in the back seat works well. What do you think?

The gates for the back of an SUV or station wagon do work very well. I used one when I traveled with a Dobie. Make sure that it is securely mounted using the directions from the manufacturer. I used to hop into the back of the Jeep to make sure of this, and pushed and pulled on it to make sure it was secure.
Make sure that the area in the back is clear of loose items like lug wrenches, no lubricants, etc. Give them a bed or blanket to lay on.

just tell ure neighbors that they should keep their dog in the house or in a warmer place or the dog might get hurt and it should have a warmer place to sleep in. Also describe the leash problem and say maybe the dog could be untied and let to walk…
