How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.
~ Anne Frank, Diary of a Young Girl ~

This group is for everyone Regardless of their diet, although the common theme is loving animals and not eating them. I'm the founder of VegHaven.org a community for Vegans and Vegetarians and traveling on The Peace Tour. (Check Out VegHaven and HELP ANIMALs!) Wanna do more? Join The Peace Church <<, This Rocks! Welcome! This group is for Vegans, Vegetarians and those that want to learn more more about a compassionate, plant based diet. Being Vegan or Vegetarian is not some list of rules you must follow. It's a joyful way to live. A way of living that puts you in "the flow" of the universe. If you're not familiar with reasons we're so passionate about not eating animals feel free to watch the video below. You may find it shocking, but let me assure you it's not some special report or some investigation. It's what happens to animals every day all over America.

So please jump in and say hi. Introduce yourself and lets have fun! INTRODUCE YOURSELF Are you Veg*n? If so, why? What led you to stop eating animals? Namaste, Chris

That was the quote at the top of the very first blog I ever posted at The The Peace Church and embarked on The Peace Tour with Tysha.

Tysha and I had just created a vision our life together and were married a month after that post. That vision was The Peace Church. I wanted to share with my friends here at ASPCA :)

In that blog I wrote that I felt a warmth pass over me as I read that quote. At the time I didn't know how I would have the time or the resources to participate in much less help create something as big as The Peace Church, but that quote put all those feelings at ease.

The Peace Church is now run by a Circle of Elders, has grown to more than 1,000 members and ordained more than a dozen Ministers. Tysha and I were at the last event in Benicia, California with many of the members Ministers, family and friends. In fact, our parents met there for the very first time making it even more special. [VIDEO]

How can I not be excited about what's happening here? When I look around The Peace Church I see:

Gaia at The Earth Touch Wellnes Center, a shining example of one Minister making a difference in their community,

Kevin Lewis on tour with his new book, "Coming Out: The Road to Unconditional Love".

Grandmaster Lana in the Halau

Rhonda with the Awakening Center and her group here "Ask Rhonda"

Tysha working in the Reiki Garden

Greg performing Sound Healings

Colleen giving her gifts of support to the operations of TPC, her art and radio show.

Tysha were married Nov. 22 of last year. She was traveling in her RV when we met.
We've been traveling together on the Peace Tour ever since.

We've decided that we need a place to call home. We still travel on The Peace Tour, but want a place in Reno to call home and serve as a base of operations. Reno is a great location as we can easily drop into California where there's a lot of energy now with Peace Ministers Lana, Gaia, Kevin and Greg.

So we're starting a Reno Peace Church and are currently looking for a place that can serve as a meeting place and a community center in the downtown area.

Each Month we'll have a potluck, volunteer a day and other fun activities (like tubing!).

We already have close to 50 people participating.

Our Reno Group Here at The Peace Church

I started this blog post the same way I started my very first blog here at The Peace Church so I feel it appropriate to end it with the same words I ended my first blog:

We've stepped into the flow and there is no turning back.
Things are being created effortlessly and with ease.
For me, that's one of the many signs we're on the right track.

The Peace Church only asks that you "do that which is right".

My religion is kindness.
If I can help another sentient being, I do.
If I can not. I do my best not to harm them.

Namaste

Be careful with the vegan junk food, too. A lot of the deep fried foods, such as french fries and potato wedges, are deep fried in tallow.

I just bought Sarah Taylor's book, "Vegan in 30 Days." It looks pretty easy to follow. I like that she empathizes healthy vegan food instead of just steering her readers toward "vegan junk food." She says that veggie burgers are good, but beans are ultimately a more healthy option. I like the "30 day plan" approach. I'm on day 3 now, and I'm planning to follow it to the letter. :D

I adopted a vegetarian diet back in 2000, when I went to college. I managed to go about 4 years without eating meat. The problem was, I ate unhealthy vegetarian food: fries, sodas, chips, meatless burgers with tons of salt and ketchup, and cheese. In retrospect, eating dairy products defeated the purpose of going vegetarian in the first place since I wanted to give up meat for environmental reasons.

Now that I'm older and have a better understanding of veganism and what goes into preparing food and eating a balanced diet, I'm hoping to make some real changes.

Hi, KK and others!
Someone mentioned wishing to be vegetarian but still eating eggs. A vegetarian eats or may eat dairy, eggs or honey. A dietary vegan doesn't eat any animal products.

KK, welcome! Mine is not the only approach, but this is what I did in 1982, and I still do not eat any kind of meat.

I started by eating fewer meals with meat and finding more meatless foods I liked, like soy milk, rice ice cream and veggie burgers, along with all the fruits and veggies that were already part of my diet.

I considered myself in the process of "becoming", and realized that guilt would mar the joy to be found in that "becoming." Very quickly, the good I was doing for myself, for animals and for the environment overcame any desire to eat meat.

I suggest that you avoid eating with people who might belittle your choice until you are stronger. You don't owe anyone an explanation unless you feel comfortable giving one. In certain company, I still say "It's just a personal choice."

It's a good idea to have veggie food with you in case you can't be home to make some. I was a convention delegate in my county for the presidental election, and could have kicked myself when it ran past midnight, my snacks were long gone, and the only meal served was B-B-Q. Even the potato salad had bacon in it. AARRRGGG!

Suggest restaurants where you know you can get a veggie meal and don't hesitate to ask what's in a dish. They want (or should want) to please you.

A good friend would probably appreciate knowing ahead of time that you are eating vegetarian if you are going to be a dinner guest. In other dinner situations, have some fruit or something before you go and eat salad and side dishes.

Make some veggie friends! My happiest Thanksgiving was my first one with the Vegetarian Society! It was pot luck, a family event, and a real treat to find a big buffet and be able to try anything on it.

On another note, now that's it's more widely know that vegetarianism is good for the environment (UN report on Global Climate Change), more people are eating more meatless meals for that reason. I WISH it were also because they wanted to alleviate animal suffering, but I'm grateful for it nonetheless.

We've heard all possible arguments for eating meat, hundreds of times, refuted them with our logic and conviction, and we're still here, happy, healthy, vibrant, peaceful and feeling good about our choices.

Thanks!
Karen

I have been a vegetarian since June 2007. I first decided to do it for health reasons and then when I started to get all of the information about how animals are treated ect. I quickly decided to become and stay a vegetarian for them.

I would never have it any other way =]

Susan O, look up a list of logical fallacies and you will see your argument about human evolution is irrational and invalid.

Most importantly, it is other people's business what you eat because your choice affects other human beings:

the environment, and animals. It is not a personal choice anymore than abortion is, unless you are killing the animal yourself, or aborting the baby yourself with some homemade concoction because when you request the services of an industry you are involving society.
