Wilderness Society Action Alert: Protect Western Colorado's spectacular landscapes
The resource management plan for 1.2 million acres of land in the
spectacular Colorado Plateau region is up for review by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
These unique lands are targeted for increased uranium mining and
oil and natural gas exploration. The new BLM management plan
will impact them for decades to come. The good news is the BLM
is asking for your voice in the shaping of this plan.
Your voice, right now, is extremely important to ensure these
western Colorado lands are protected from industrial
exploitation as the region feels the pressures of rapidly
increasing oil and gas development, mining, and off-road vehicle
use.
Riddled with shale hills and rocky sandstone gorges, the wild
lands of western Colorado represent a masterpiece of erosion,
weathering and wildness. From the towering Book Cliffs spanning
the northern skyline of Grand Junction to the labyrinthine
redrock canyons of the imposing Uncompahgre Plateau to the
hidden natural arches and jumbo-jet sized alcoves that grace the
area's rugged canyons, all of these lands deserve protection.

Click below to tell the BLM to manage western Colorado lands
with wilderness, wildlife, quiet recreation and paleontological
protection in mind. But, you must weigh in before Jan. 9!

NWF Action: Final Attack Made Against Endangered Species--Please Speak Up Today!
Please take a quick moment right now to send an important message to leaders of the U.S. House and Senate that would help overturn the administration's final blow against one of our country's most important conservation laws.
The current administration has just issued its final rule eliminating one of the strongest protections found in the Endangered Species Act, but our current Congress can take action during its final days in office that will help the incoming administration restore the Endangered Species Act.
America's threatened and endangered species can't speak up for their future, but we can. Please send this important message today. Thanks!

NRDC Action:Stop Bush's Giveaway of America's Redrock Wilderness

I am reposting this, the NRDC is asking that we send this to friends and family too. This has to be done ASAP!

Tell the Bush Administration to cancel the December 19 auction of Utah's Redrock wilderness to oil and gas speculators. These natural treasures belong to the American people in perpetuity. They are not Bush and Cheney's to give away. Once the drilling begins, this majestic wilderness can never be restored. Please send your message opposing this disastrous plan.

NRDC's Action Alert: Tell the Canadian government that tar sands mining is threatening North America's birds

Tar sands mining and drilling in Canada's boreal forest is destroying critical nesting areas for millions of birds. Tell the Canadian government to halt any expansion of this destructive practice

Big Cat Rescue Action: Send Truck Stop Tiger to Big Cat Rescue

Tony the Tiger resides in a truck stop/roadside attraction in Grosse Tete, LA in a concrete cage that is overrun with feces and overwhelmed by fumes from 18-wheelers. Louisiana state wildlife officials have given the owner 30 days to find Tony a new home.
Big Cat Rescue, the world's largest accredited sanctuary, is willing to commit to the lifetime care of Tony, providing him clean conditions to live in, proper veterinary care, and an appropriate diet.
As supporters of Big Cat Rescue, we need your help to ensure that Tony is allowed to come to our sanctuary. Please take a moment to send the following letter, and if you are able, follow up with a phone call or fax to the Iberville Parish Council. The Council meets on Tuesday, December 16th, so time is of the essence.

its the first action listed on this page, and there are more to do there too:

Update:Tony's owner has filed a lawsuit Monday to block the state and local officials from enforcing the "no exotic pets" ordinance.

Oceana Actions to do:

Oceana Action 1: Tell the Bahamas to Stop Killing Sea Turtles

While you might think of the Bahamas as a place of great natural beauty, believe it or not, it is perfectly legal there to kill every species of sea turtle except the hawksbill. Since turtles are highly migratory, what happens in the Bahamas affects turtle populations in the U.S. We need your help today to get the Bahamian government to end the killing of sea turtles.
I just took action to protect sea turtles in the Bahamas. Will you?

Oceana Action 2: Save Endangered Sea Turtles!

All six sea turtles species found in U.S. waters are listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act. The ESA is supposed to help sea turtle populations recover, but Oceana's new report suggests our government isn't doing a very good job.
Every year, our government allows U.S. commercial fisheries to harm hundreds of thousands of sea turtles and when they exceed their allowed number, the government turns a blind eye.

We can't let sea turtles be driven to extinction. Please sign the petition!

Defenders of Wildlife: Outrageous! Bush Denies Vital Polar Bear Protections!
In the latest in a series of parting shots at our imperiled wildlife, officials in the Bush/Cheney Administration today announced that they will deny America’s vanishing polar bears desperately needed protections under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
Polar bears are already drowning and starving to death as the sea ice they need to survive disappears. Scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey say that polar bears could disappear from Alaska within the next 50 years.
The decision by the outgoing Bush/Cheney Administration effectively limits new protections for polar bears from harmful oil and gas drilling in their Alaska home. It also expressly prohibits using the Endangered Species Act to limit greenhouse gas emissions that are warming the planet and driving polar bears to extinction in America.
Defenders of Wildlife is committed to protecting these Arctic ice kings and the habitat they need to survive, but we’re going to need your help to do it.
Defenders of Wildlife has already filed suit in federal court contesting the legality of a previous, “interim final” version of the Bush/Cheney polar bear rule, and will also challenge this new final rule to ensure that the polar bear, which was listed as “threatened” under the ESA on May 14, 2008, receives the full protections that other species receive under the ESA.
We’re fighting attempts to industrialize vital habitat for threatened polar bears with harmful oil and gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Chukchi Sea. And we’re working to prevent trophy hunting of Canadian polar bears by wealthy U.S. trophy hunters.
If you’d like to help support these and other wildlife-saving efforts, please adopt a polar bear today for someone you love or yourself, and you’ll provide essential support for Defenders of Wildlife’s efforts to protect these beloved bears.

With your help, Defenders of Wildlife helped get the polar bear listed under the Endangered Species Act. Together, we can ensure that those protections actually mean something for America’s struggling polar bears.

With Gratitude,
Rodger Schlickeisen

Please, take action AGAIN, this position is crucial for policy on wildlife, animal welfare and the environment!

Say a big "no" to Mike Thompson for Secretary of the Interior. He is said
to be edging out Grijalva who was clearly in the lead to get the nod.

We have to get the message through to Obama's transition team:

Go to:
http://change.gov/page/s/yourvision

Please go there now and cut and paste this into the form: (or add more if you have time)

For Secretary of the Interior:
please choose Grijalva for Secretary of the Interior and say "no" to Mike Thompson.

Wilderness Society Action Alert: Help me save bighorn sheep!

Hells Canyon, on the border between Idaho and Oregon, has long
been the home of the bighorn sheep. For more than 100 years,
domestic sheep grazing on public lands have infected bighorns
with diseases for which bighorns have no defenses. Where there
were once tens of thousands of bighorns, there are now only an
estimated 2000 statewide.
I just wrote a letter to the Forest Service, supporting their
efforts to provide disease-free habitats for bighorns. They need
to know that Americans are willing to stand up for our country's
unique at-risk animal populations. Please join me by writing
your own letter to the Forest Service.

Click below to take immediate action.
