Action Alert from SaveOurEnvironment.org

For over 30 years, the Clean Water Act has made our nation's waters cleaner and safer by protecting them -and the fish and wildlife that depend on them - from unregulated pollution and destruction.
But these protections are under attack. U.S. Supreme Court decisions, along with Bush administration policies, have put at least 20 million acres of wetlands and 60% of our rivers and streams at risk to lose their federal Clean Water protection
status.
In fact, the current situation is so confusing that the
Environmental Protection Agency recently revealed it has simply stopped enforcing the Clean Water Act for many rivers and streams, giving polluters free rein to dump into our waters.
I just took action, telling Congress to stop neglecting our nation's waters and pass the Clean Water Restoration Act now.
Please join me by clicking below to send your own message. Then, please forward this email to ten friends. We really need your help to spread the word.

Take action today at:

Environmental Defense Fund Action Network

Our oceans are in trouble. Fisheries are collapsing, pollution is creating dead zones, and global warming is causing the death of corals.
Now, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is proposing new rules to manage our fisheries.

Take action – Tell NOAA to use innovative fishery management tools like catch shares to restore our fisheries to abundance.

Two actions for Endangered Species Act: NWF and EDF

NWF ACTION ALERT: Administration Plans to Gut Endangered Species Act

The National Wildlife Federation just obtained a leaked document revealing the Bush administration's plans to gut the Endangered Species Act during its last few months in office.
Please click on the link below to send an urgent message to the Secretary of the Interior, asking him to put a stop to the attack on the Endangered Species Act.

To take action on this issue, click on the link below:

EDF Urgent Action - Protect America's Endangered Species

Under the Endangered Species Act, federal agencies are required to subject construction projects to an independent review of scientists.
Now, the Bush administration is proposing new rules that would skip this step of independent scientific review, weakening one of America's landmark environmental laws.

Take action – Tell the White House not to weaken the decades-old regulations that have helped protect the bald eagle, grizzly bear and gray whale.

HSUS ACTION ALERT FOR WILD HORSES... FINALLY!

I just took action online to help protect wild horses and burros
on public lands in the U.S.
The BLM recently announced that it may begin euthanizing horses
in holding centers in order to "balance the budget," but killing
horses is not the answer to the BLM's financial woes.
I hope you will join me and urge the BLM to end its war on wild
horses on our public lands. It only takes a minute.

actions for Environmental Defense Fund:
(several to take, for more see site at bottom)

Soil erosion, water pollution and vital habitat loss are
imminent if the USDA decides to release 24 million acres of land from the Conservation Reserve Program for commercial use.
The penalty-free release of this land would be devastating for our soil, water, habitat and efforts to stop global warming.

Helping change issues that affect the environment help wildlife, of course. There are many issues there from stopping offshore drilling to urging the Navy to stop using sonar that is harmful to whales.
thanks.

URGENT: NEVADA'S WILD HORSES TO BE EUTHANIZED IN A CRUEL MANNOR... AND THEY SHOULD BE BACK ON OUR PUBLIC LANDS! THEY NEED YOUR VOICE... PLEASE HELP:
These horses are being taken off of public lands not because of the reasons they are citing, but to get them off of the land under pressure from cattle ranchers. They plan to kill them using either overdoses of barbituates, a bullet to the head, or a prod to the head like they use on cattle. This is horrible. I have lived in this area for 22 years and have seen their numbers dwindle. This is so dear to my heart and to anyone who cares about the wild horses... majestic animals...a national treasure!!

What you can do now:
Please also contact your US Representative, two US Senators
To locate your US Representative and two US Senators, visit www.congress.org and enter your zip code.
To contact Chairman Nick Rahall, a long-time friend of the horses, click here:

BLM has set up a web-page for the public to comment. While we are under no illusion that they have any interest in the American public’s wishes, you may give them a piece of your mind by calling 202-208-7351 or by following this link: http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/prog/wild_horse_and_burro/feedback.html
more to do:
Alert Oprah Winfrey to this tragedy. She needs to hear from thousands of us urging her to feature our wild horses, American icons, on her show:
https://www.oprah.com/plugger/templates/BeOnTheShow.jhtml?action=respond&plugId=B2100004
CNN’s Anderson Cooper should be urged to investigate the matter:
http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form11b.html?1
Please also contact your US Representative, two US Senators, and Rep. Nick Rahall, Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, noted above.

Defenders of Wildlife Action for Polar Bears
After months of delay, federal officials finally listed polar bears as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act in May.
But the Administration also issued a new rule that dramatically limits new protections for these struggling bears and the places they need to survive.
I just wrote federal officials at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to urge them to give polar bears the protections they deserve -- you can, too. Just go to this website:
