Hey! Good for you. It's been a while since I logged onto the ASPSC community website and I just now read your comment. Sounds like you're off to a great start. Good Luck!! :)
That's a huge undertaking with a lot of financial and legal responsibilities, to say nothing of the responsibilities you'll assume for the care and welfare of the cats & kittens.
I volunteer with a fairly large rescue and see on a regular basis what they deal with - it's an enormous amount of work and a great deal of responsibility.
I'm not an expert, but just a few things you have to consider are:
A good rescue (or rescuer) usually has at least one vet who's agreed to provide services for them at a reduced cost.
A good rescue needs a facility large enough to quarantine sick cats from new cats and cats already confirmed as disease and pest free, until they are seen by the vet.
A good rescue needs VOLUNTEERS (yeah for the volunteers!) to help take care of the cats and get the word out so good homes can be found.
A good rescue also, unfortunately, needs an attorney.
That adds up to lots of $$$$, obviously (donations, donations, donations).
And, probably no matter where you live, there are local laws and requirements that must be met in order to maintain and run a not-for-profit rescue. (I won't even pretend to know how you go about getting that done.)
I would say the best thing to do is to find a rescue in your area to volunteer with and learn from them. You'll see first-hand what it will take to start something on your own.
Hi, I signed the petition "maximum penalty for the men who hacked up a puppy." I'm asking you to sign this petition to help us reach our goal of 100,000 signatures. I care deeply about this cause, and I hope you will support our efforts. Here are the basics of the case:
Hardened police officers have been shocked by the horrifying torture, mutilation and brutal slaying of a seven month old fox terrier puppy near Mackay at the weekend.
If found guilty, they could face up to two years in prison. Police have obtained video footage from a mobile phone which shows graphic images of the puppy yelping and howling in terrible pain as it hacked to pieces with garden shears and a pocked knife.
They said the owners were too distressed to talk to anyone about it.
The pups nose was cut off, its front right leg and rear left leg were cut off and it was decapitated. A three-part video series on a mobile phone shows the dog being tortured.
The maximum penalty under the Animal Care and Protection Act for such an offence is $75,000 or two years in jail; however the maximum penalty ever handed out has been a four month jail term.
WE BELIEVE THESE MEN SHOULD RECIEVE THE MAXIMUN PENALTY AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA FOR THIS SADISTIC, DISGUSTING ACT.
i totally agree that all dogs, whatever the breed, should be on a leash. i had a german shepard for 13 years and he was a gentle giant and very well trained. i had a pure pitbull for 10 years and she also was a gentle, sweet dog. i now have a pitbul…
desiree,if thats what you believe you are a fool.any dog can turn and snap at any given second.belles does not hate pits but she is correct.on the leash and totally in control, that is where all dogs should be weather it be a chahuahua or a ridgeback.
