Dont buy anything with down in it

Do you know how they get down to put in our clothes and pillows and so on?
They pluck it when the birds, for example geese, is still alive. It is most painfull!!
There have been a lot written in Newspapers about that they do so in China, but it is not only there.
There are a website from Hungary, where they are proud of telling that their down is plucked by hand from live geese.
Today there are a lot of alternatives. New materials which are as worm, or wormer, as down.

Wollen is not something y… Continue

Dont buy anything with fur on it

Fur trim: as bad as a full coat

The fur trim industry is now worth half a billion dollars a year, with China being the largest producer and exporter of fur trim and accessories. Fur trim is not what’s left over from making fur coats; in fact, the number of animals killed for fur trim is overtaking the number killed to make full coats.

This trend is particularly worrying because the necessary pelt quality for trim is not as high as for coats, meaning the animals are subject to greater mistreatm… Continue

Those are a couple of really nice pics of Nanette and Clara. I can imagine that they like getting in the water for a swim, and such good exercise. You are lucky that your water there is so clean.

So you are busy again with holding down the farm, I know it is a lot of work for you. I can just imagine you out there enjoying the warm weather, this is your time of year.

I just wanted to let you know that I made it back from the mountains in one piece. A few extra scrapes and bruises, especially on my shins, but I love the challenge the mountains give me. My hip is not so pleased. Getting old wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for those physical problems. : )

Vacation over, back to the real world. This is a pic of me and Bill on Mt. Shavano, 14,229 ft.. 7/17 our 39th wedding anniversary. Bill is holding a sign in tube that many of the 14,000 ft mountains have. Neat to see where all the people have come from, and read their comments. I'm going to try to get some pics uploaded to Picasa for people to see. I'll let you know.

Hope all is going well with you and your fur family.
((Hugs)) to all!

Oh, I sure got that wrong! I could not deal with THAT much sun. I need dark to sleep, that is why working third shift did not work for me, that was many years ago.

I understand the work. I too seem to have so much to do outside. My inside work is in need. Many appointments too, me the dags, now hail damage on the DOGKAR ( my Ford Explorer).

My good friend from Florida is here this weekend for her niece's wedding. I am going to drive her around today to see and do some things. She doesn't get here often, this will be a treat for me. Tomorrow, back to work around the house.

I volunteered at the shelter yesterday. I was fortunate to see this cat with some orphaned pups. I hope you can open this newspaper article. http://www.qconline.com/archives/qco/display.php?id=446033.

I will keep in touch occasionally, jut to see how you are doing.
BIG ((HUGS)) to you and all the animals,
Linda

Hi Anci,
Are you and the furkids living in the dark yet? I just found out that I am Vitamin D deficient. I was floored, I having been taking supplements and eating right since the 70's, even my dogs get supplements. I need all the sunshine I can get now, get some of that D naturally.

Visited my nephew in St. Louis over the weekend. It was a good visit, but always have to catch up when I get back.

Really hope that all is well with you.

Thanks for your kind words. But I think if you had the chance to save a dog's life, knowing you were going to give it a good forever home with someone, you would do it too.
You are right, it did help that I could not get them all together, and I didn't try to either. I could not risk Sundown's mental state, and this made me work harder to get Luca a good home. He is close, I could see him again, and the lady promised to keep in touch. I do have to get him microchip tag to them after I pick it up at the shelter.
It is easier too, now that I have just 2 dogs again. I need to give Sundown's belly and thighs a bath every 2 days. Tomorrow I get my second opinion on his skin.
I will let you know what I find out.
Take care my good friend.

Saying goodbye is the hardest part of fostering. I have to remind myself that I am a stepping stone, and I need to keep myself open to fostering more dogs in need.
Luca has been the hardest to let go, but I know he has a great forever home now.
