Thanks for all the good info, Michael. My cat is 7 but is healthy and is current with all checkups, dental cleanings and vaccines from my vet. My 1 year old large miniature poodle is also current on everything available that my vet thinks she needs…

Michael Shea- you said a lot of cats have shown up with the H1N1 virus. Are these cats surviving? How bad is it for the cats who have it. If we can pass the H1N1 virus to our cats can we also pass it to our dogs? Is there a H1N1 vaccine for our cats…

My 7 year old cat is a Rex rescue and he is very active. These were the first Devon Rexes that I have ever had, but their personalities are so different than the other cats I have had in my lifetime. For one thing my cat is still so active and loves…

I teach school and have not had an opportunity to get the shot as pregnant ladies and children are the only ones receiving them around my area at this time. I hate to think that I might become ill and give my kitty the flu. I am anxious to learn mor…

Big Awe factor there K. I could just see Smokey cleaning the little guy, then when caught in the act, look all huffy like, "I didn't do that." I just love reading about everyone's different experiences with new cats and kittens. Tracy.

Bobbie has some really good points to consider. Just how active is your 7 year old? If he is a very active and energetic cat, then a younger, submissive companion might be the ticket - maybe an older kitten. If he is laid back and not very active, t…

Profile Information

Proud pet parent of:
Sharess-6 month blk. miniature poodle
Teddy-6 year grey and white Devon Rex cat
How we met:
I teach and got my Devon Rex, Teddy, from a teacher who had one litter a year to pay for her "going home trip" to see her parents in Norway.
I lost a beloved black 16 yr. old blk. mini poodle two years ago and got Sharess from a breeder not too far from where I live. I really liked the breeder as she seems to really know and love all her dogs. I also like and admire her open door policy of dropping in to see her dogs and your puppy. This was great because I got to play with mama and papa dog and play with my baby, Sharess, until I was able to bring her home. Open door policy means that my good breeder didn't have anything to hide. She encourages people to come any time.
Pet likes:
Teddy likes back massages, face rubs, and chin and being scratched under his chin and on his cheeks. Being a Devon Rex he is cold natured and loves the electric blanket and sleeping in warm places.
Sharess is still very much a puppy like she was when I brought her home. Everything goes in her mouth so I really have to watch her. She loves any kind of play and activities and running in the back yard. She likes to chase the squirrels, although I don't encourage this as I feed the squirrels. Both the cat and the dog always want to be where ever I am. Both enjoy being brushed.
Pet dislikes:
Teddy dislikes loud noises and the dog when she plays too rough.
There is not much the puppy does not like. She is very puppified and into things. She is still learning what her "No, no's" are. I call her hyper, but I think I just forgot what puppies were like since it has been about 18 years since I had a new puppy.
Pet’s favorite spot:
Sharess favorite spot is definitely wherever her people are so lots of time is spent in the den where all her toys and her crate is.
Kitty Teddy likes to be near where he can be petted but sleeps on my bed at night. Nap times will also find him on my bed or in my second bathroom on the bath mat where the sun comes in the window and warms the small room. I keep the electric blanket on my bed when ever there is cool and cold weather. Teddy absolutely loves the electric blanket.
Pet’s favorite toy:
Teddy's favorite toy is canip toys. Teddy enjoys catnip.
Sharess' favorite toy is the one that I am holding at the time. She doesn't really want to share her toys with me or Teddy. She promptly removes them from us whenever we act like we are playing with her toys. She is a real chewer on all of her toys.
Pet’s silliest habit:
Sharess sits in her water bowl. She used to turn it over until I bought bowls that she couldn't turn over. Now, she sits in her water bowl or puts both her front paws in the water bowl and acts like she is digging which splashes the water all over her. She loves to play in the sprinklers outside or with the water hose.
Teddy acts silly with catnip. But I think his silly habit is when he lies on the floor with his tummy and four paws up. He does this when ever he wants me to pet his sweet little white tummy.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
Teddy's is definitely when he purrs to me. I always tell him what a pretty purr he has. He will purr to me when ever I just talk with him about being "Mommy's sweet baby kitten" and tell him how much I love him.
Sharess is so sweet when she goes in her crate for beddy-bye and lays her head down on the pillow right away. She is also sweet while giving me puppy kisses and when she first sees me in the mornings.
I crack up when my pet:
I crack up when Teddy does something that embarrases him, such as when he misses one of his jumps. He is also funny when he turns on and off the lights, closes and opens doors, and flushes the commodes.
When Sharess was spayed the vet told me to take deodorant and rub it around the incision site as dogs do not like to lick deoderant as it dries out their tongues. Silly Sharess liked the taste of it though and thus, now, she likes to lick me under my arms. I'm sure that really looks weird and believe it or not, it tickles!!!!
My pet is unique because:
Teddy is very unique because he is a Devon Rex cat. Many people do not know what kind of cat he is because they have never seen a Devon before with his big ears and wavy short, soft fur. Also, he is a very active 6 yr. old cat which is common for his breed. He jumps on everything and has been on everything in my house including the tops of doors and shower stalls. There is nothing in my house that my cat has not been on including the top of the refridgerator.
Sharess is young and I think she is still developing her personality. Right now she acts just like a puppy should. She does all sorts of puppy antics. Just like a baby, everything goes in her mouth. She is very active and I am surprised she doesn't need more energy naps during the day than she takes. She doesn't want to miss a thing.

Hey Barbara,
Is there any way you can tuck away or hide the cables? Sprays like bitter apple work really well in my experience. Just spray a little on the cord, it's not harmful and it discourages your pup from chewing on it.
As cute as puppies are, I'm just glad mine are grown up and aren't teething anymore lol.
Let me know how things are going,
Steff

Hey Barbara,
Don't reply to anything bowdownbowwow, wob6699, or anything like these names, post. If you see a post by them or names/topics like them don't respond. They're on here to make people mad and upset. In the post you were responding to he was referring to a members dog whho was shot to death. He's been attacking it ever since he joined telling the owner to get over it and that his dog deserved being killed. Just a warning, :) We're trying to let everyone know,
Steff

The market is flooded with products that make bold claims and then never deliver. Many of these products are perfectly marketed so that people buy them and never return them once they do not work. Paraslim Force
