Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you... lot of things going on!
Most Vet Tech's will go after their Associates in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology. That is 2 year degree. After the completion of that (** Make sure it's an accredited program.. or it's a waste of your time and more imporantly, money).. you are eligible to sit for the Registered Veterinary Technician exam, to become a RVT. I am not sure on the licensing requirements for a LVT (Licensed Vet Tech).. but from what I have gathered, the vet's I have worked for, prefer a RVT.
To go on to vet school, you will need a minimum Bachelor of Science in Biology or in another field (as long as the prerequisites have been met).. then after that.. you can apply to a vet school.. to work towards your DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine). Vet School admission is VERY compettive. There are only a total count of 27 in the US (I think).. So why you are working on your BA in Biology.. you must keep pretty much straight A's.. and get invloved in extracirricular programs.. set yourself apart from the other applicants...
If you're not interested in going to vet school.. being a Vet Tech is a very rewarding career. My favorite part of being a vet tech when I was working at the vet's.. was (1) SURGERY.. that was so fascinating! (2) CLIENT INTERATIONS.. I like the feeling that I get when clients ask for advice, or when I'd explain a procedue.. you get a lot of respect, if you know what you're talking about. My least favorite part was the euthansia. We had a resident cat that had been there for over 10 years. He was in the final stages of Renal Failure.. and I went in the ICU ward one day to make my morning rounds, and he was just limp.. he was moaning.. so I held him as the vet put him down. It was a very emotional time.. and it is impossible to stand there and not show emotion, when you don't even know the animal.. I can't tell you how many times I've broke down, and not even knowing the animal or family.
The job has it's up and downs... more up's than downs! The emergencies are ALWAYS a rush! Surgery is AWESOME!
Hope you do well in your career and keep me posted!!
And we can end this by agreeing to disagree. Your lack of insight as to the right thing to do is somehow not surprising and I will consider it as a testimony as to who you are - as I am sure will the others who had the misfortune of replying to your…
I believe all has been said. You will not be receiving an apology from me, nor do I expect one from you or your group. Now we are all on the same page. I will continue to rescue, and you all will continue to do your animal work, and thankfully some…
