I adopted a dog because the owner had died and his family didn't want the dog. She was 7 years old and had a heart problem requiring medicine daily. I was lucky to know the Vet they took her to to have her euthanized. Our Vet called me and I said without hesitation, I'll take her.
Sydney (Min Pin) is now 8 yrs old and stays by my side all the time. She's great little dog and giving her a pill daily is no trouble. The Vet says her heart sounds better now than it did a year ago when I got her.
She about 7 lbs now and I'll never understand why anyone would not want her. She gets along with my other dogs even though she so small compared to the 20lbs & 70lbs that bounces around her. She's learned quick how to avoid the others when going outside, she's usually first out & last coming in.
She's a great little addition to out family. I was so glad, no honored, to give her a second chance for a long & happy life.
I'm sure there is someone out there that feels the same if Animal Shelter & Rescue shelter would get the word out about dogs needing a home. Internet - Newspaper - TV News - Pet show- Fairs - Trade Shows, there are so many ways to let the public know. Just give them a chance.....

I am saddened by posting the news of 146 Pitbulls being euthanized yesterday in Wilkes County, NC, these poor dogs didn't even have a chance. I is a shame that if a bully breed you are guilty before proven a non fighting dog.

It appears that the courts had already decided that the death was the only solution for these dogs and their puppies. I sat in the court room and there was no one to argue for the release of the dogs to Best Friends. I was sickened and appalled.

Below is the article from the Wilkes County paper.

Lethal injection used with pit bulls Monday
by Staff
As a judge ordered in Wilkes Superior Court Monday morning, Wilkes County Animal Control officials on Tuesday euthanized 146 pit bull dogs that were seized in a kennel off Mertie Road Dec. 10 as part of a dog fighting investigation.
Wilkes Animal Control Director Junior Simmons said that in compliance with wishes of the Humane Society of the U.S., the dogs were destroyed through lethal injection instead of with carbon monoxide.
County Attorney Tony Triplett said Tuesday that Judge Ed Wilson had little choice but to order euthanization of the dogs because they had been declared “dangerous” by county officials.
Under the county’s animal control ordinance, dogs deemed dangerous must be euthanized. Triplett said that under state law, dogs used as part of dog fighting are to be considered dangerous.
Simmons said eight of the dogs were kept at the Wilkes Animal Control Shelter and the remainder were housed on private property in Burke County under a contract with people who cared for them there. The locations of the dogs had been kept secret, partly due to concerns about animal rights activists.
The dogs were associated with Wildside Kennels, whose owner, Ed Faron, 61, was convicted last week of 14 felony counts of dog fighting. Two people who worked there were also convicted and sentenced.
Authorities seized 127 of the dogs in a raid on Faron’s property on Dec. 10, 2008. The rest of the dogs were born after the raid.
The raid was the result of a three-year investigation by the Humane Society of the U.S., in cooperation with Wilkes County Animal Control and the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office. Representatives of the Humane Society told the judge that the dogs should be destroyed, because they had been bred for generations to be aggressive.
Simmons said the Humane Society of the U.S. already funded much of county governments expenses with housing and guarding the dogs in Burke and was expected to provide an additional grant to nearly completely cover the county’s costs. Off-duty Burke deputies provided security.

i understand what you mean about euthanization, it makes me want to cry. i hate how shelters put them down after they have been there for a certain time. i know that they can not afford to keep them forever, but its not fair to offer them a chance for a new life, a new beginning, and then take it away like that. maybe one day there will be a law against it.

I have had an animal that was stolen from an ex-landlord that robbed me and did identity theft on me! I never saw Zaney Boris ever again! I tried my best to fight to get him back, but I never had luck! This woman did an evil act against my animal, by taking it from me and never giving it back to me! It was a horrible thing that I ever experienced!
Since this has happened, I have learned to become a stronger person with the help of GOD! I have moved on from this horrible experience, and now I have become a Happy Owner of two beautiful cats that I adopted! One eye Winky, is my adopted stray kitten and Babi'e is my homeless cat that followed me home one day! Babi'e looks exactly like Zaney Boris! Identical! I feel that God has chosen to bring these two beautiful cats into my World and to accept to love them and care for them! These pets are my Guardian Angels! My Uncle Abraham Berger, 91, WWII Vet, with three bronze stars who has passed, always told me I would get my cat back, and I thank God to say that he was right! I strongly believe in Rein-carnation! Thank you God and Thank You Uncle Al Berger!! I love you Both! My Prayers Out To EveryOne that Is a Pet Lover, and a Pet Owner! God Bless You Always! Charise Chervenok Thank you for your Friendship to Doggy TV! God Bless People Like You with The Voice that Is Needed In this World to Save these Precious Living Creatures! They are Like People too.. They Have Feelings, Just Like YOU & ME!! GOD BLESS!
