You are very fortunate to work in an environment that shares your love of animals. Although your colleague may be distressed by the impending loss of a pet, you can be confident that just your presence is a comfort to him or her. At the ASPCA, there…
Hi,
I am not animal behaviorists but it is not hard to imagine that your cat was sending a message to your boyfriend that said 'She belongs to me. I will share her with you but don't forget about me." Animals certainly use their bodily fluids to ide…
Hi,
I have also had rats as pets and found that some visitors were repulsed and others came to enjoy the rats as much as I did. Some people have speculated that the rat's tail looks like a nsake to some people and that is why they get so scared. The…
Michele,
In the best of all possible worlds all the creatures we loved would also love each other but it is not realistic to have that bliss. So you have to ask yourself : why is it so important to me that my husband feels intimately attached to my…
Gretchen,
Your comment is so beautifully written, I suggest you write a book yourself! There are many books on the human-animal bond but none is more accurate than another. Our understanding of the human animal bond is deeply personal. I think you w…

Hello Dr.LaFargeI am an animal lover, in these days I received from a friend of mine the attached video which I found very sad, while I was watching it I could not stop crying and I felt the necessity to send it out to some one who can help and react about this , for God Sake, our animals are leaving cratures the suffer and feell like us.
Hello Dr. LaFarge, Do you remember Cassie and me? We took a class at the ASPCA 2 yrs ago and Cassie (German Shepherd Dog) developed IMHA. You spoke to me by phone almost everyday to help me through it. Cassie is fine and is still doing therapy work...stronger and healthier than ever! Thank you so much for helping me through that horrible time.
Hi Dr. LaFarge
can you please tell me Where I find a reputable animal behaviorist in my community (Dallas- Ft. Worth) . There are so many to choose from.
Abby has always been a sweet dog but her fearful aggression has changed our routines. She loves people but dogs who try and dominate her or bouncy dogs make her snap and she has focused aggression that I can't snap her out of. There is nothing I wouldn't do for my dogs and I just want to get her the best help I can.
Thanks you for taking the time to Help Us.

yes i know this i'm not uneducated! AND WHY DON'T WE TALK LIKE PEOPLE WHO ARE A LITTLE RESPECTFUL AND NOT TYPE LIKE WE'RE YELLIN AT EACH OTHER. that really is very offensive. There are regulations when animals are slaughtered they don't beat them an…
I would report them. Don't worry about making them mad. I wouldn't, they're being cruel and inhumane. If they get mad just ask them to sit outside all night like him. Don't feel bad about reporting them. They're the ones doing wrong.
Maybe you could suggest that to anyone you know. Or talk to your local shelters and animal control agencies about how they need to change their policies. I think it is terrible that animals have to suffer for human choices. If you really feel strong…
