Proud pet parent of:

Penelope, Yellow Lab mix. She was a rescue from Fairfield Animal Rescue, South Carolina. She is now about 4 1/2 yrs old & I adopted her 2004 when she was about 1 or so. She had many hang ups but she has acquired her CGC & Therapy Dog reg. She travels everywhere w/ me and does presentations w/ me for FAR,& Therapy Dog education. she has worked at a psychiatric unit & has brought much happiness to folks even at presentations! We recently did a talk to a prestigious group that was noted for people leaving in the middle of a presentation- not one person left once we started!!! She was really "on" that day w/ her charm & did all her tricks w/out fault! What we hope to show is that a large majority of dogs ,& cats too, that are in shelter/ rescue situations can turn their lives around & bring joy & smiles to the world.

How we met:

She was an in-home foster w/ the man who had her & neglected her medically, emotionally, & physically to the point of abuse. She had a crushed right hind hip that was not treated & was not fed. The rescue had no room for her so she was supervised in his care til a vacancy opened. She was deemed incorrigible in the rescue & I took her into my care. She progressed well w/ much guidance, supervision , many dog training classes, and much training time on my part. Her hip was fixed before her training began and she was able to retain her leg. No one adopted her after a year in foster care so I signed the papers on 4-23-04 & have never regretted the decision!!

Pet likes:

Loves the beach!!! She knows she 's on vacation & thinks the world has no cares when she 's there. She loves riding in the golf cart and getting attention from folks as she wears her seat belt & doggie sun glasses, of course!

Pet dislikes:

She still does not like some noises & this is constant work we do.

Pet’s favorite spot:

a pine straw bed in front of the house.

Pet’s favorite toy:

She 's not a toy girl. Did not have them as a little pup I guess.

Pet’s silliest habit:

when she is a loose she'll sometimes bounce up & down like a ball when she gets excited!

Pet’s sweetest moments:

When she sits in a sand dune beside me at the beach watching the ocean, birds, and people and occasionally leans against me turning her head as if to say-" this is the life together" and then straightens up and continues to watch the horizon so relaxed! So much peace & contentment is passed b/w us

I crack up when my pet:

when Penelope just seems to know when we are about to take a ride even w/out my saying so in anyway that I realize or when she just goes & sits by her load up car door as if saying she wants to take a ride. I may not even be outside but I find her sitting there & we usually go for a short ride & she is then content.

My pet is unique because:

She is just "Penelope" and has overcome many many hang ups to become a lovely buddy. She always had a lovely spirit and I'm happy we found each other!
