I think you may have told me about this, Tracy! I have also been using the hurt meow cry with my 1 yr. old female who was a stray and, I suspect, probably not socialized by other kittens to understand how and when to bite. The hurt meow cry seems to…
I have to say I was also intrigued by the name, Shithead. Although I'm not sure that is the problem here :) I would definitely try cleaning out the litterbox with soap and water (don't use vinegar or ammonia since that will make the cat not want to…
Awesome! Thanks for the tips, especially about the spray bottle because that has been driving me nuts! I just don't want to buy another one and have it not work.
I have a couch made about 12 years ago that was made by Lay-Z-Boy and the fabric on it is kitty proof what u want is like a heavy weave... almost like a tweed jacket... very tight knits u can even make couch covers with the stuff.... and what happen…
Yeah, my cats also go nuts for their scratching posts (one upright and one on the floor with the ball in a track surrounding it) but they also scratch at furniture, esp. when feeling territorial. And I can also hear one of my cats, Minnie, wandering…
I have no idea, one of the cats are declaw not my doing, The her cat is not and I buy her scratching pads that lie on the floor. The last one looked like a ramp. She has it all clawed up. I am home 95% of the time to tell her to stop. Right I can he…
Has anybody found a material that their cats do not scratch as much? My husband and I are looking at getting a new couch and they are expensive! I know that all cats are different, some enjoy clawing carpet, some enjoy sisal rope, others enjoy drape…
I know this post was from a long time ago but if anyone else looks at for answers I was thinking it might be possible to lodge a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the state veterinary licensing board, or the American Veterinary Medical Asso…
Hi Lisa,
I absolutely agree with the other replies and the only thing I might add is that you could try talking to these people yourself (depending on your relationship with them) and trying to get them to find other homes or surrender most or all…
Thank you for this resource!!! Although it is helpful to commiserate and get advice from fellow lay people, it is great to have some professional help. I'm going to head over to your site and try to get some help with my cat who seems to have a skew…
Absolutely! I know that for a lot of vets they really do the best they can for our pets but since our cats/dogs/birds/etc. can't tell us what is wrong the vets have to rely on their best guess (and sometimes really expensive medical testing :). But…
It could also be that you are interpreting their actions as accusatory because you feel guilty, but you shouldn't. Cats are curious creatures and they get into things, but you did the right thing by taking your cat to the vet and that should make it…
I am so sorry to hear about your friend and it is really good of you to take in the soon to be orphaned cats. I'm sure it helps your friend immensely to know that her/his cats are taken care of and will be getting a fun new cat room. Have you looked…
Elvis - ~11 yr. old black and white tuxedo cat
Minnie - ~2 yr. old tortoiseshell cat
How we met:
Elvis - Ulster County SPCA. He peaked out at me from under blanket and played peak-a-boo with me.
Minnie - NYC Animal Care & Control. My husband and I adopted her together. She was so sweet and quiet at the shelter. Little did we know she is a holy terror :)
Pet likes:
Elvis - Food, sleeping under the bedcovers, patches of sunlight
Minnie - Food (although her love of food may be more anxiety from being a stray and not having enough), TOYS, playing.
Pet dislikes:
ELvis - Minnie when she is being annoying and when my husband plays a little too rough with him.
Minnie - who knows what sets her off? She suddenly will decide she dislikes being pet and will swipe at you.
Pet’s favorite spot:
Elvis - My pillow.
Minnie - Follows me around so I think her favorite place right now is next to me.
Pet’s favorite toy:
Elvis and Minnie both love the Cat dancer pole with a feather on a string.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
Elvis - when he sits on my chest and we commune while I pet him.
Minnie - when she makes chirping noises when waiting for me to feed her.
I crack up when my pet:
ELvis - sticks his face in my water glass and then can't get it out. He doesn't learn.
Minnie - runs really fast all over the apartment and then can't get enough traction to stop and slides into a wall. Shouldn't laugh but it is hilarious.
Hi Katy,
Minnie seems very young yet and yes, being a stray, can definitely influence her appetite and anxiety. We adopted Bacchus last November, my first shelter cat, and he was definitely a food-a-holic. Little butterball had a belly that dragged on the ground, and he was a biter. He is also front declawed by the previous owners. But I saw in him a cat who was unsure about his surroundings and had a few anxiety issues that I knew we could work out.
If Minnie continues to have food anxiety after a few months, my suggestion would be to slowly convert her over to a grain-free diet. I did this with mine because Bacchus turned out to have an intolerance to grains. He just blossomed under this new diet, and a lot of his biting went away with time, patience, training and new diet. His little tummy used to be painfully distended due to the old diet. Another benefit to this type of diet is that they feel fuller, more satisfied with less food. Bacchus does not wail for extra food anymore. The high protein content seems to satisfy their craving for meat. Just a suggestion.
My female was a 6-month old cage-raised baby when we brought her home. I could not pick her up, hold her, or even pet her. I almost returned her, but figured returning her would mean a fate worse than death. I decided to try and work with her. I let her come to me on her own terms. And yes, she learned many, many manners from the male cat we had. I then would pick her up and put her down. Eventually, she learned that when I pick her up, nothing bad will happen. She is now six years old, and is totally my cat. We have bonded so completely, but it took quite a while for her to trust me. Minnie is still young and she will come to trust you with time, patience and lots of interaction.
Hey, where are your pictures? We love photos of our pets here.
Tracy.
We all donated for Bosco including the K-9 Units around the USA. So if the Budget is a problem that has NOTHING to so with Bosco. The budget is poor planning by lazy people who want it handed to them and arn't smart enough to do creative fund raisin…
It's been alot worse than this.. It infuriates me. These people say money could be spent better elsewhere but I don't see them offering their time or money for any other causes. They just hide behind the keyboard and piss & moan.
The more peole I…
