I have had a dyplastic dog that I had to put to rest in 1999. This pic is of Max, he was 13, and I chose to let him go shortly after it was taken. You know when it is time, you don't want them to suffer, but if you can control the condition, you can…

Profile Information

My website or blog:
http://myspace.com/4evrfit
Proud pet parent of:
Sable 'Coated' German Shepherd Dog - Keggi Fair's Mae West (aka Bittergreen) The breeder wanted all old movie names for the litter. I wanted my next girl to be named after the Gordon Lightfoot song 'Bittergreen'.

Sable plush coat Shiloh Shepherd - Glorious Sundown on Wolf Ridge. He's named after a Lightfoot song too. Don't know what Gordon was really singing about, but I thought it was a good dog name. Glorious is the kennel name, and we live on Wolf Ridge.
How we met:
Bittergreen came over the back fence.

Sundown we went to Ohio to pick up. Found him through a breeder online.
Pet likes:
Bittergreen is ball crazy.

Sundown likes to tease Bittergreen by taking her ball and making her chase him, or he lays down on it to hide it from her. It drives her crazy, and he knows it.
Pet dislikes:
Bittergreen?
Sundown rain and especially thunder. Won't chew chewable meds or vitamins.
Pet’s favorite spot:
Bittergreen likes to take control of the bed.

Sundown likes to lay outside when it's cold and especially if there is snow.
Pet’s favorite toy:
Bittergreen is ball crazy, especially a tennis ball, but those have to stay outside.

Sundown, whatever Bittergreen has.
Pet’s silliest habit:
Bittergreen will lay her ball next to the next 'pile' when I am out picking up the yard. She wants to make sure I see it.

Sundown, rolling over when we walk by to get a belly rub. Most embarrassing when we are at the vets office, everybody has to give him a belly rub.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
Bittergreen looks at me with adoring eyes.

Sundown likes to lay next me when I'm sitting on the couch.
I crack up when my pet:
Bittergreen is not much of a comedian, but Sundown pushes her buttons and that can get funny.

Sundown pushes Bittergreen off the couch so that he can sit next to me. He just squeezes her off.
My pet is unique because:
Bittergreen is a sable 'coated' GSD, she gets noticed because of it.

Sundown has a special, lovable personality.

Saving Phoenix

She was found abandoned in a rental house, and brought to the animal shelter. Two cats were dead the third was euthanized to stop it's suffering. The bath water ran red with blood for 20 minutes from all of the flea bites. My daughter, Nikki, wanted to get her out of the shelter and foster her. I live around the corner, so we did a co-foster. She was only 36 pounds when I picked her up at the shelter on 8/24/09. She looks old, but we know she was born in 2/07.
She was a survivor and needed a survivor name, so we called her Phoenix. We knew tis little girl would soar again.

8/24/09

10/3/09

Almost 6 weeks later, she has a new forever home. A new name, Onyx, perfect for a beautiful girl with a rich black coat. And she has a new rough and tumble sister, Kelly.

Do Not Adopt K.C., MO
This was a cross post e-mail to me. Please pass it on.
Linda

Please beware of Andrea Ruege of KC, MO. She wanted to adopt a mastiff mix from us. We found out she lied on her app, e.g., address, landlord, no vet ref altho she changed her story a bit on that, etc.
Their previous dog got hit by a car when she was placed under arrest for an outstanding traffic ticket she says she forgot about. She asked that they leave the dog in her car while she was taken to the station. An… Continue

Julie Brinkman of WI is still on our DNR/DNA/DNT list and yet I'm still receiving reports that she is attempting to get dogs from IL, IN and OH -

I've also been advised that she is also transporting and those SHELTERS AND COORDINATORS MAY BE RISKING THE LIVES OF THEIR FURRY PASSENGERS!

PLEASE BE ADVISED AND AWARE

Iowa Regents OK New Animal Testing Lab

'The Iowa Board of Regents has approved more than $11 million for an underground animal research laboratory at the University of Iowa. The regents approved funding for the project during their meeting Thursday in Ames.

The 35,000-square-foot lab would connect the Medical Education Research Facility and Carver Biomedical Research Building on the Iowa campus.

Jordan Cohen, interim vice president for research at Iowa, says linking the buildings means researchers will never have to transport anima… Continue

Hi Linda, Sorry for the delay in reply. I am hardly ever on this site... to much spam! :P I have not gone to raw feeding as of yet. It seems most people I have met feed kibble for one meal and raw the other. We continue to feed high grade/no grain kibble and a touch of human grade soft food. I would love to hear what you've gathered regarding raw feeding!

Poor Onyx. What a setback. It must be the shepard part of her that gave her the hd as greyhounds never get things like that. Poor adoptive parents. At least they love her enough to give her what she never had before the time love medication ect ect. However you began the work with her and because of the love you put into her she is abel to recieve it as well as give it. Cudos to you for that. It has been such a great relief to be abel to resume the life I had before without to much financial worry or indeed having to fight in the legal system without aid. Perseceverance pays off. I knew That I diden´t do anything wrong but it was still an enourmos burdrn..I am relieved to hear you are getting a complete hip replacement it will reduce the pain no end . Not to begin with but gradually. I had a friend who had both her hips replaced she did realy well afterwards and was very happy with the result. So I wish you the best of luck and speedy recovery with that one. The lads are doing realy well. It is almost a year ago since I picked Tristan up what a change from the thin wraift of a greyhound I picked up on that cold winters day till now a complete transformation has taken place. Like the three others he is deeply loved. I have a lovely family with four legs. Friends like you is the icing on the cake . Thank you for being there and being who you are. Lots of love and Merry Christmas from Lisbeth and the lads.

Dear Linda. Things have improved by miles.I won the courtcase against the landlord of the place I used to live in before. I had them thrown out of court twice. By simply protesting. I did not have any legal aid. All I had was the truth and by arguing my case in no uncertain terms and by pouncing on the things in their legal writ that were questionabel to say the least I won. I am relieved to say the least. I am now studying for exams wich will be held in Janurary. However that is something I look forward to. The lads are doing well and things have been very calm lately So things have improved by miles. I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year will write more tomorrow. Lots of love from Lisbeth and the lads.

Oooh boy.. well, the good news is he's 6 months old, so it's probably just a matter of confidence, training and time. Sounds like he was an out of control boy! Axel loves people.. he just hates being around other dogs. It took him a good month before he could trust us and come when called, but now all you have to do is open your arms and he is wiggling in them!

Did you have a good Thanksgiving? We did... ate too much. You know, I end up cooking every year and by the time I sit down to eat.. I'm not hungry. LOL

Hope you're doing well.. look forward to pics of Balu..
