Proud pet parent of:
I'm a foster parent for abandoned and abused animals. I take either cats or puppies. I recently moved and don't have a fenced yard, but I'm hoping to fix that soon! I love fostering, but it is very very hard to give them up and I always cry. I bottle feed, litter train, etc. Basically show 'em the ropes. :)
How we met:
There's a big story about how I started fostering, so here it goes: I live in a rural area where we take our own garbage to the landfill. One Jan. day I went to drop off garbage and a little puppy comes running up to my car, whining. Yes, people take their unwanted animals out to the landfill after dark and leave them there. I live in the north where in Jan. it's 20 below zero DURING THE DAY. At night it can get down to 40 or more below zero. I hadn't even moved into my home yet because it was being renovated, so I didn't know what to do with the pup. I called around and found out that we don't have an animal shelter or anything even close. I was given a few phone nos. to call and 2 nice ladies came out to my house to show me to how to set up for a foster because both of their homes were full! I named the little pup Jazzy and about a month later found him a forever home. After that I put my name in for being a foster parent, too, and have since fostered about 40 pups and kittens.
Pet likes:
I'm babysitting my mom's kitten, Baby Lou, right now and she is CRAZY. She has a variety of likes. She likes it when I make my bed so that she can fight with the sheets and she likes when I run away from her so that she can chase me and fight my feet. She loves it when I take a shower so that she can get in with me! I couldn't believe it. She'll sit behind the shower curtain, tho, and peek out, watching the water. She loves her catnip mouse ("mousaka") and crinkly-sounding stuff. She's also a people person and hates being alone or sleeping alone. Not your classic cat!
Pet dislikes:
The only thing Baby Lou really dislikes is (1) being alone and (2) eukanuba dry kibble. She's the first cat I've had that doesn't like eukanuba dry.
Pet’s favorite spot:
On the bookcase in the living room, looking out the window at the world.
Pet’s favorite toy:
Mousaka. Or my legs as I'm walking.
Pet’s silliest habit:
Fighting the sheets and blankets as I'm trying to make up my bed. This can seriously challenge my patience when I'm in a hurry.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
When she wants you to cuddle with her and kiss the top of her head. She can be real sweet when she wants to be.
I crack up when my pet:
Pops out of the dark and grabs the back of my leg(s). She keeps her claws in but has scared the heck out of me a couple of times. She gets going around 10 o'clock at night. One night at around midnight I was watching the movie Nightwatch with Ewan McGregor as the nightwatchman at a morgue. His girlfriend, played by Patricia Arquette, had just gone to the apt of another girl that Arquette suspected of having an affair with the boyfriend. Arquette gets to the apartment to find the mysterious girl dead - stabbed to death, and the killer still in the apartment. I decided to dash into the bathroom for my pajamas and Baby Lou got me just as I was almost to the bathroom door. The house was dark right in that spot and woooo, man - did I scream! She jumped out of the dark and wrapped herself around my calf as I was walking. She loves this. She'll run and hide and do it again.
My pet is unique because:
She's a people cat. I don't know what we'll do if we go on vacation because I have a feeling Baby Lou will go into a funky black depression. We might have to pay a little extra to get her into a personalized care kennel. :)

Stories about starving animals make me soooo mad. I can't understand why people, when they come to the point where they can't feed their pet anymore, don't (1) give him up to the animal shelter or (2) find someone to take him. A starving animal can go on quite a while, until they're like a living skeleton. I know because I've rescued them. It's so cruel.

Meanwhile, I have another kitten. I went out to the landfill to dump my garbage last week just as the truly cold winter weather started coming… Continue

Listening to the oldies channel I just remembered something - I used to have a cat that loved Burt Bacharach songs. Oh - and the Carpenters and Shania Twain. Isn't that crazy?

Gee, I can't believe we're heading toward halloween - my favorite time of the year! ^_^

I'm currently staying at my mom's house and taking care of her kitty while my mom's in the hospital. My mom's having a few problems with her innards and is being monitored, so it's nothing too hugely serious. She's getting good care.

Her kitten's a character! She's like a ninja, especially at night. She's sneaky and likes surprise attacks - on me, of course. The basement in my mom's house has a dirt floor i… Continue

e-mail story from a friend

Thought I'd put this up. It's a sweet story:

The Old Man and the Dog

By Catherine Moore

'Watch out! You nearly broad sided that car!' My father yelled at me. 'Can't you do anything right?'

Those words hurt worse than blows. I turned my head toward the elderly man in the seat beside me, daring me to challenge him. A lump rose in my throat as I averted my eyes. I wasn't prepared for another battle.

'I saw the car, Dad. Please don't yell at me when I'm driving.' My voice was measured and stead… Continue

Helloooooo! ^_^ How are you and how is your holiday season coming along? It's colder than colder here, but I love the holidays - and not just for the gifts! ^_^ I'm glad my pets have a home and they're indoors, especially at night when it gets down to 25 below zero. ^_^

I love our dog at home. It's my roommate's dog and he's such a character! He's a big lab/irish setter mix and is afraid of my roommate's tiny cat - because the cat picks on him! Just when he's in her path. The other cat goes around the dog and is done with it. They're such characters. The last couple nights there's been a huge rabbit in the yard. He doesn't chase it. He just kind of barks at it in a vague way and goes back to snoozing - so funny! I always make sure I budget enough money to get treats for him. He's a good watch dog.

Belles I also free feed, only had an issue with one cat, whom we nicked Hoover, he would inhale any food possible then present it back. I agree cats are individuals as are dogs, some do fine with free feeding others do better with timed feedings.

The animal may be injured to the extent that he'll heal without human intervention. They are *very* tough,
