Proud pet parent of:
Gina femal, Border Collie &
Chance, (Male)
Butterscotch and white Aussie/Kelpi Mix
He looks like a butterschotch and white Border Collie with no tail.
How we met:
My new dog Gina is a rescue from our local Animal Services Shelter. My precious Missy got sick, and went down hill so fast. It got to the point we had to make the decision to help her on her new journeny. I was devestated. Just 4 years earlier; we had to let our sweet Moka go because she developed Doggy MS, and was losing the use of her back legs. After Missy's death, our Vet. asked if he could do a necropsy, as he was so surprised at how quickly Missy went down hill. It turned out she had tumors in her lungs, and one large tumor in each lobe of her liver. One of these larger tumors had ruptrued, so she was bleeding internally. We had made the right decision again. Still so heart breaking, but Missy was at piece, no more pain, no more sickness.
The 4th of July weekend was just about a week after losing Missy, and although we have little money right now because my husband lost his job like 1/2 the nation has. Something was drivng me though. I spent most of the weekend checking the availabel dogs, at our many local shelters, and rescue organizations on-line. At our local Animal Services shelter there were two sweet females that caught my eye. One was a 2yr. old Aussie, Queensland mix, and the other was Gina, a 4 yr. old Border Collie.
First thing Monday morning I called the shelter to see if either of the dogs were still there. The Aussie/Queensland had been fostered, and the foster family decided to keep her. She was adorable, so I really wasn't surprised. Gina, the Border Collie was still there however. The shelter opened to people wanting to adopt at 11 am. Needless to say, I was there at 10:30. As I said, something was driving me, and I had to adopt this dog. The closer to 11am it got; more and more people started showing up. I have to admit I was a bit scared that someone might see her berfore me, and adopt her. As more people came, I started talking to many of them. Most were actually there because there animals had gotten lose over the 4th weekend, and were hoping they were there; waiting to be reclaimed, and go home. One poor Cowboy, was looking for his Border Collie. She was a working dog, and while working the ranch one day, she just disappered. I felt so bad for him. His dog was not there. It appeared someone just stopped along side the road and took her.
Anyway, I went kennel by kennel looking for Gina, and there she was. She was a surrender, not a stray, but had been in the shelter 1 month to that very day. She was sweet, energetic, and when I took her out to the out door kennel to play with her, the way she looked at me I know we were meant to be together. One of the shelter volunteers brought Gina out to the front of the building to meet Chance. When they met, they did the butt sniff circle, then just sort of sat and looked at each other. I could see he was resigned to the fact that another female (this would be the 3rd) was going to join the family, and he would be no longer be "number one dog."
Gina was dirty, and in need of a good brushing, so after I did all the paperwork, and they "chipped" her, I put her in the back seat of my SUV (I didn't put her in the back with Chance on the way home. I wanted to get them a bit of time to get to know eachother.) When we got home, the fist thing I did was give Gina a good brushing, then a bath with shampoo that would be good to her skin, it was a bit flakey and dry, had vitamins for her coat, and a flea killer in it too. I was sure she probably had fleas after being in the shelter for so long. She loved the bath, and stood quietly while I scrubbed her, and left the shampoo on for a bit to let the flea stuff do its thing. After the bath, another brushing. Then it was off to our local animal feed/supply store for an identifcation tag.
Pet likes:
Walking in the park with brother Chance. Meeting new dogs on our walks. Car trips, playing fetch with any thing that allows her to get some big air. She loves to ride in the car too, but one of our favorite things to do is go for our afternoon walk. This walk we do alone together most days. Big brother Chance goes on all the morning walks, but only goes on the afternoon walks a couple of times a week. He's ten now, and doesn't know when to quit, so we have to make sure he doesn't over do because he gets real stiff, and has a hard time getting up. Gina and I love to do this walk together. She is wonderful on the leash, and we both go at a pretty good pace. I am a weight watcher member, and trying to lose weight, and she is an energetic Border Collie, and NEEDS the exercise. We both win.
Pet dislikes:
Being asked to get out of her brother's bed. That is something Missy used to do too, but I have to say that Gina has decided she likes her own bed better, and rarley goes to Chances anymore. Neither of them likes the vacuume, or the brainless cat that lives next door.
Pet’s favorite spot:
1st my brother's bed.
2nd my bed.
laying on the far side of Mom and Dad's bed in the bedroom where it is cool and quit. The park where there is lots of room to chase toys, and meet other dogs.
Pet’s favorite toy:
The ring I chewed off of Missy's squeeky giant pasifier toy. I also have a teddy bear. Tennis balls are way up there, and as soon as mom gets a frisbe, I can show her just how I rock at catching them.
Pet’s silliest habit:
Throwing her own toys in the air, and then catching them herself. Trying to get Chance to join in. (He has his own toys, and doesn't want anything to do with mine.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
Playing with Mom's Grandkids. Both kids have the dogs figured out, and realize just how to treat the differences in the dogs personality. They both know that they love to have their tummys scratched, and Gina will chace anything. And if one of the kids goes out the door, Gina will try to heard them back into the house. The kids know to just stop, and tell her to go inside, and close the door, so Gina can't see them leave. Chance trys to pretend to be the bad boy. The minute the G-kids give them a pet, they both turn to a "puddle of puddin.'' Both our dogs are loving, loyal companions, protecters, and marshmellows.

A PET’S 10 COMMANDMENTS.
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate final journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you sono time to stop.
I crack up when my pet:
Watching the dogs get to know each other better. Chance was hoping that this little sister would cut him some slack, and at least pretend to let him be #1 dog. Not happening though. The bossy femals get him evertime. We're so lucky he is so easy going, and in the end is happy to relinkwish the #1 status.
My pet is unique because:
As we get to know her, and she is relaxing and blending into our family; she is so good natured, an gentle. She has done it in such a way that makes us feel (even big brother) like she has been here forever.

Our sweet Missy went home today.

Bob and I are greiving the loss of our sweet Missy today. She was our Tri-color Aussie. We were blessed when we adopted her 4 years ago from the local ASPCA Shelter in San Luis Obispo.
Bob and I went on our yearly weekend away, weekend before last. Missy had a slight limp when we left. This limp seemed to come and go over the last few weeks, but had always gone away. On Monday our dog sitter was just walking Missy and Chance home from a poop walk as we were driving into our driveway. Missy had h… Continue

A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a sign advertising the 4 pups And set about nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard. As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt a tug on his overalls. He looked down into the eyes of little boy
'Mister,' he said, 'I want to buy one of your puppies.'
'Well,' said the farmer,
As he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, 'These puppies come from fine parents and cost a good dea… Continue

Michael Vick want him back in the NFL?

This petition came to me over my regular email address. I wanted to pass to anyone who feels as strongly as I do that MV should be put in a bloody dog fighting pit, and left to die.
Back in the NFL? Are you kidding. He should not be allowed to be reinstated. We all know how our kids look up to and idolize football players. I don't want MV to be in that position again. He needs be shown that as humans we have a duty to love, and care for the animals on our planet. Does he even know that one of th… Continue

Hi every one. Its us again. Chance, Gina, and Mom (Lisa).
We wanted to stop by and upload our new pictures. We finally got another camera, so we took some pics of the "kids," so every one can finally see our Gina. She has been with now since July, and has setteled in like she has always been here. She continues to amaze us with her incredible inteligence, and love. She was truly ment to be part of our family. Missy and Moka, our sweet girls, that have crossed the bridge; obviouly had a hand in my intense need to adopt her. Thank you girls. We love Gina very much. We will never forget you, and will meet you in that wonderful place where you are waiting for us. . . . .Mom

Hello every one. Its been a long time since I visited this page. Our lives have been very busy, and sometimes I just don't seem to have the time to even turn around once, say nothing of checking on my friends here. I just wanted to update you on our life with Gina, a Border Collie, and the newest member, and of course, Chance, our 10 year old Aussie/Kelpi mix.
Gina has made herself at home here. She and Chance have become insepertable. With our short walks, play times, and long afternoon walks, We have all become healthier. Chance's artharitis even seems to be better because he wants so badly to keep up with his 4 year old sister Gina.
They are happy, healthy dogs who love us dearly, and each other. They make us laugh, with the quirky little things they do. Gina has been dubbed, Gina Two Toys. When she wants to play, she must bring 2 toys at the same time. We don't know if she wants us to chose which one to play with her, or if the second toy is a "just in case" toy. Chance loves baby seal toy. He has had it since he was a puppy, and his favorite thing to do to get Daddy's attention, is to grab it by the tail, and swing it around, and then throw it up into the air, only to catch it on the way down. Gins is crazy for catch. She loves to get a few feet away, and have one of her toys thrown at her. She is so fast, she always catches it, and if it bounces off her nose, she will catch it before it hits the ground.
I hope this brief message finds all of you, and your companions well, and happy. Its back to the busy's for me. I will try to check in more frequently, but this is a busy time of year for my husband and I, so if I don't answer a comment right away, it is not that I am not thinking of you all; more that finding the time to sit and catch up on everyone is just impossible for now.
Love to all of you, and your very special friends.

your story of Moka made me think of my Mejara & Montana- my most 2 recent losses 2005 & 2007. i have lost 7 dogs from my life- and look so forward to seeing them again- could I recommend the book " Heaven" by randy Alcorn- 2 chapters just about animals & heaven are so comforting- God brought this book to me a little later after mejara passed but I was still so in the grieving time.It was truly uplifting and comforting. perhaps we can grow to be friends- that would be a bonus.
