It will not throw their temperature off. If your dog has long hair, it is important to shave them!(I do, every summer!) Whatever the breed, girls tend to be embarrassed around two days!) Just tell her how pretty she is, if your attention doesn't c...

Profile Information

Proud pet parent of:
Wylie- rescued dog: Mixed breed
Molly- rescued dog: Black Lab
Ginger-rescued dog: Collie/Dobie mix
Ruby- rescued dog: Daschaund Mix
Gus- rescued cat
Gamera- rescued Box turtle
Frogger- African Clawed frog
How we met:
All of my pet family members are rescued from either Animal Shelters or I myself have rescued them from neglect or abandonment. My turtle was almost burned when she was trapped inside a built in barbecue pit. She has been with us for over 6 years now. Our frog is deformed and we bought him from a pet store becasue we knew no one would ever buy him and he would die in the store. My cat was abandoned behind an ER Vet Clinic and we adopted him 12 years ago. My dogs are all Shelter or Rescue dogs. I have such a soft heart for unwanted and unloved animals. If I could, I would own a 10,000 acre ranch, and start a Rescue Organization of my own. We love our animal family so much and I am always advocating for Animal Rights and I volunteer with a local Animal Cruelty Organization.
Pet likes:
They all love their treats. They love to go to the River here and run, jump in the water, smell all the smells, and just be dogs.
Pet dislikes:
Ruby, our smallest doggie, hates baths or getting wet, unless she is the one jumping in the river herself. As soon as I go outside to turn the hose on, she runs behind our shed and hides. Poor baby! Most of them hate going to the Vet to get their shots. I even have to muzzle my Wylie because he gets so nervous that he gets snippy with the male techs. Other than this, all my doggies are sweet, friendly, and happy!
Pet’s favorite spot:
outside playing fetch in our back yard or cuddled up in the house with us late at night
Pet’s favorite toy:
Molly- her red Kong ball that she guards with her life. She would jump through anything to get to her ball.
Wylie- he takes all of their bones I buy for them and buries them, only to never find them again
Pet’s silliest habit:
Ginger, she is the last one to wake up in the morning. When I tell her to go potty outside, she just lays down and looks at me. She is so funny! She loves her Mommy and would be at my side 24 hours a day if I let her, but she has to go outside sometime!
Pet’s sweetest moments:
My dog's sticking together when someone opened up my gate and they escaped. One of my dogs was hit by a car, and my other dog with him never left his side. He stayed right there with him until they were found and rushed to the Vet.
I crack up when my pet:
Freaks out when they see their toys or balls and how they will jump, bark, and trip trying to be the first to catch the ball, Also, when I pull their leashes out to go Bye-Bye, they go nuts; they get so excited!
My pet is unique because:
They are one of a kind! They were all someone elses throw away pets, and now we can't imagine our lives without them. They are part of our family!

Important Links, Poems and Images about Animals.....

Below is a cool link that supports Horse Anti-slaughter efforts. The CD is great!!
http://www.racingfortime.org/

The next 3 photos are from a Rescue we did at our Auction on May 15th. Since we are in a border town close to Juarez, Mexico, these horses go to slaughter and it's horrendous what they might have endured. Mexico has no regulations regarding humane euthanasia for animals. They are stabbed repeatedly until they collapse and then may still be alive when the butchering process begins. There were so many horses there, but we could only save a few. The sad thing is that these auctions happen weekly here. I wish I could save them all.........

Above is "Frank Sinatra" one of our rescues from Slaughter at our local Auction here in El Paso, TX. He was rescued along with Deena Martin and Napoleon and they are all doing great. They will be adopted very soon!! The money raised by ACHE was mainly donated by complete strangers. I am proud to be a part of this Organization, even as a volunteer!! Frank Sinatra is a 13 year old Thoroughbred gelding

The above photo is Deena Martin, another one of our May 15th rescues from Slaughter!! Isn't she beautiful?? She is a young mare about four years old. She is a Thoroughbred and has a slight bow tendon injury

This is "Napoleon" (above) a pony saved from Slaughter. He is a very good little guy and would make an experienced young rider a very good pony. The Animal Cruelty Organization I volunteer with (ACHE) saved him along with several other horses on May 15th, 2008 in El Paso, TX. He is beautiful and should never have been at auction in the first place!

http://www.purethoughtshorserescue.com/stophorseslaughter.php The Above Link is a great resource of information on Horse Rescue and Stopping Horse Slaughter!! If everyone got involved, we could end Horse Slaughter in Mexico and Canada.......

Please go to this site to be educated on how Horses are being tortured and then slaughtered in Mexico. This link will also take you to a video that is graphic as it shows a horse being stabbed until she collapses! Get involved and write your legislators to demand they support Bill HR 503/ S 311, the "American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act." The Humane Society site can even help you find your Reps in your state and they can give you the contact info you will need to write and call...

"Just a Dog"
From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up,
it's just a dog,"
or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't
understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the
costs involved for "just a dog." Some of my proudest
moments have come about with "just a dog."
Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a
dog," but I did not once, feel slighted. Some of my
saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog,"
and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just
a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will
probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a
sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into
my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure
unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion
and patience that make me a better person. Because of
"just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look
longingly to the future. So for me (and folks like me)
it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes
and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past,
and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a dog" brings out
what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from
myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday
they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the
thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being
"just a man or woman." So the next time you hear the
phrase "just a dog," just smile, because they "just
don't understand."

I am an Animal Rescuer!

My job is to assist God's creatures.
I was born with the need to fulfill their needs.
I take in new family members without plan, thought or selection.
I have bought dog or cat food with my last dime.
I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand.
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid.
I have fallen in love a thousand times and I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body.

I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends.
I don't often use the word "pet."
I notice those lost at the road side and my heart aches.
I will hand raise a field mouse and make friends with a vulture.
I know of no creature unworthy of my time.
I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven,
but I believe there are.
Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind?

We may be master of the animals, but the animals have mastered themselves...
Something people still haven't learned.
War and Abuse makes me hurt for the world, but a rescue that makes the news...
That gives me hope for mankind.

We are a quiet but determined army,
and making a difference every day.
There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan,
nothing more rewarding than saving a life;
No higher recognition than watching them thrive.
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play
who only days ago was too weak to eat.

I am an Animal Rescuer
My work is never done.
My home is never quiet.
My wallet is always empty.
But, my heart is always full.

In the game of life, I have already won.

Today neighbors pool is nasty

My next door neighbor has a pool that gets so nasty. They won't clean it often enough. Mosquitos are going to love it this summer! Why have a pool if you aren't going to keep it clean?????

It depends on where you live on whether you need a permit. Some states consider them dogs, while some states consider them wild animals, and you need a wild animal permit (Typically $1,000 per animal a year). I am luckily in a state that tolerates them.

Owning wolves or wolfdogs is more a lifestyle than a choice, which I didn't know until I rescued mine ;). I am curious at what age your puppy became aggressive? Some wolfdogs have a 'dominance' issue around 6 months of age, and will fight with other members of their 'pack' for alpha status. This usually resolves itself, otherwise the only option is seperation, or finding the animal a new home unfortunately.

Most wolfdogs are skittish, and unsure around strangers. They make terrible guard dogs, as they will usually just run and hide ;). But let me tell you, I wouldn't trade this experience for the world, even though its exasperating at times! We are even taking in two more pups this weekend!

I think its amazing you rescue horses. My wife and I have 3, and 'my' horse is a slaughter rescue as well. He has turned out to be an incredibly well trained and gentle animal.
