A pitbull named Kasey. A cat named Lily-Rose. A sugarglider named Rayne.
How we met:
My husband and I saw Rayne in a pet store in 2003 and thought she was adorable, so we brought her home. With Lily-Rose, I was in PetsMart shopping for a Christmas present for my mom's black lab and saw her in the adoption window. She was a runt and was the only one left out of her litter. She came home with me that day. Kasey was the victim of dog fighters. She was used as a bait dog and was abandoned at my vet's office. He paid for her surgeries and put her up for adoption. After meeting her, I couldn't resist her adorable face and gave her a forever home!
Pet likes:
Kasey likes belly rubs, playing with her stuffed goose, treats, playing with children and taking long walks with mommy and daddy. Lily-Rose likes sleeping in the sunshine, ambushing her little sister Kasey and being brushed. Rayne loves grapes and climbing on daddy.
Kasey's favorite spot is in bed laying between mommy and daddy. Lily-Rose loves to lay anywhere that the sun is shining. Rayne loves to sleep in her ferret bag.
Pet’s favorite toy:
Kasey's is her stuffed goose. Lily's is her feather teaser. Rayne doesn't really play with toys.
Pet’s silliest habit:
Kasey and Lily both wrestle with each other! LOL!
Pet’s sweetest moments:
Kasey's sweetest moment is when she makes me feel welcome when I come home from a long day at work. She covers me in kisses and is so excited to see me, her whole body wiggles. Lily's sweetest moment is when I'm laying in bed about to go to sleep and jumps in bed and snuggles under my chin and purrs.
I crack up when my pet:
Kasey cracks me up when she "challenges" plastic bags! She puffs up her fur and barks at it. Lily cracks me up when she tries to "attack" Kasey.
My pet is unique because:
Kasey has a unique physical feature: her right ear is all white with brown "freckles". Everyone always comments on how cute it is. Lily is unique with how she cuddles with me... I'll lay on my side and she'll put her little paws on my neck and lay her head on mine and just fall asleep. Rayne in unique when she wants attention... she makes a loud squeeking noise! So cute!
kasey is soo adorable and she seems to have a good personality. . . lol not camera shy at all my boyfriebd had a pit pup and the sheriff took her from him and killed her and i am looking for a pit-baby to surprise him they are his favorite and he knows so much about this breed it so unreal and he is good at traing them like potty train and tricks it soo cute to watch and interesting too. if you know any one that can help i greatly app it thank you and hope all is well for you and you puppy!!
So it is frustrating: if the girl is clean, then how is her son becoming so exposed to the cat dander? I would use that as argument that there is also something else that is irritating him. Unless he is exposed directly, or the cat sleeps with him, this isn't entirely logical. What I mean is that allergists zero in on "the cat" so immediately, and they just say get rid of it, sorry, doc, can't do that, what is your next bit of advice? And they don't have any. The dust/pollen collectors that work by static electricity would be a good suggestion, they cost nothing to run and she could have one in every room if she wanted to. The technology has mainstreamed so you don't need to buy the expensive ones from Sharper Image any longer. We didn't. I would not give up on this one. And I would maintain my argument: kids reared with pets are healthier in the long run. Good luck! Delete Comment
I think you are correct, but it is just frustrating since I have been there. You CAN beat the issue of pet dander, (I have severe asthma myself), and it does work: I have family members who are even more sensitive than myself and they are now able to come over without getting sick. Pet dander is just a cleaning issue, it sounds rude but not to be embarrased about and it isn't as much "work" as it might sound. My cat has developed (unknown/unexpected to me!) love of being brushed, so there isn't as much shedding, and he even likes being vaccummed (uh-- yeah, it's true). Who would have thought? I would hope that your friend seeks the advice of a holistic doctor first: there are treatments that might work. It is also worth repeating the issue that kids raised with pets end up healthier in the long run: without stimulation, their immune systems actually weaken. And the issue of bundled or cross-irritating allergies is very real: many times if you can eliminate other allergens (such as dust mites, dust itself, etc.), the allergy to animals is not as strong. If they really do not want to re-home the cat, please try to convince them that the situation can be improved to the point of becoming a non-issue, i can tell you because I have done it. I hate seeing people forced into dealing with it this way. BTW your pets are quite handsome.
Megan, see if your friend can more deeply explore her son's allerg(ies): many times allergies are bundled (a person has several triggers) and they each compliment (that is, trigger) each other. How was the diagnosis made? Too often doctors target the cat, immediately. I am allergic to cats and volunteer in a shelter! There ARE treatments and solutions, many of them, which do not involve re-homing a family member (the cat). These range from changes in the household, to simple herbs, to specialty treatments from a dedicated allergist. There are "vaccines' that an allergist can make up. Also, it is important to realize that, reseach has shown that kids who grow up with pets have a better developed immune systems: it is wrong to get rid of the cat, for medical reasons that they will experience later in life. Not to mention, the terrible message it sends to the child: a 5 year old may end up traumatized, wondering if his parents will get rid of HIM if he misbehaves. See if you can get your friend to consider all these real points.
Sorry I couldn't respond sooner, the family was being demanding. :)
It's not that I hate slaughter itself, it's that I do not like the way the animals are treated. As I said, if the animals were being taken care of and were painlessly put down befo…
