"Free To Good Home" Can Mean A Life of MiseryWhen we see ads on-line or in the newspaper advertising a dog "free to good home," we do our best to get the owner of the dog to turn it over to rescue. So many people don't realize that it is actually dangerous to advertise your dog in this way. Backyard breeders check for ads like this all the time. They don't want to pay for a dog -- or for its health care or keeping its quarters clean -- so they jump on any ad that offers a dog for free. If the dog being offered is capable of breeding, the chances that it will end up in a puppy mill or backyard breeder's kennel are enormous. The people who run these places are very adept at presenting themselves as just folks who want a dog for the family; one notorious puppy miller was known to take his little granddaughter with him as he visited the homes of people offering intact dogs for free or for very little money. The idea was to convince the owners that the dog would become the beloved pet of the little girl. Instead, the dogs ended up in his filthy mill, being bred literally to death. But even if the dog has been spayed or neutered, it is still in danger. Some people, referred to as "collectors" or "hoarders," have an impulse to gather as many dogs as possible. Why? Who knows? It isn't so that they can be well cared for! It seems to be a need just to have them. Do you want your dog to end up in a filthy kennel, neglected and possibly abused? Please don't ever advertise a dog as "free to a good home!" If you must find a new home for your dog, ask a standard fee, ask a lot of questions, and be sure to check valid references (including a reference from a veterinarian) for the potential adopter, as well as meeting the person. Better yet, contact a rescue group. Our sole mission and reason for being is to find safe, secure, and loving homes for animals that don't have them.

Hundreds of thousands of dogs suffer in puppy mills in this country. They are prisoners of greed. There are seven states that are known as puppy mill states because they have the majority of the puppymills in the country. They are: Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.
State Lemon LawsThe following states have "lemon laws" that pertain to the sale of puppies. If you have purchased your puppy in one of these states, you may have recourse if your puppy is sick.

This is for Two sweet boys that lost their fight to canine cancerThey say memories are golden
Well Maybe that is true,
I never wanted memories
I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you
A million times I cried,
If love alone could've saved you
You never would have died.
In death i love you still,
In my heart you hold a place
No one could ever fill.
But now I know you want me
To mourn for you no more,
To remember the happy times,
Life still has much in store.
Since you'll never be forgotten
I pledge to you today,
A hallowed place within in my heart
Is where you'll always stay.
If tears could build a stairway
And heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
And bring you back again.

I enjoyed the pictures of your dogs playing together. You are right their personalities are all so different and fun. Sometimes it does seem like a zoo at my house, but they keep me young and laughing.
Take Care,
Vicki
Sometimes a good thing can indeed come from a bad thing. I have a sore spot for puppy mills... believe it or not, there is a HUGE one in my very own family!!!! It's HORRIBLE and I can't stand it! My grandparents ran a very big one that shipped all across the US and even to Canada and they bred several small/toy dogs in Missouri. My aunt and uncle had a smaller one too. When my grandparents died, my aunt and uncle claimed all of the dogs for themselves and just continue the practice. My mother inherited half of the property and should have gotten half of the dogs too, but they won't let her have them. If they did, they'd all be adopted out and saved the horrific misery. I can personally tell you that it's one thing to see it on TV, hear it on the news, see photos of it, listen to people describe it.... than to actually BE there. I visited all the time as a kid and I was there... there was no missing the sound of HUNDREDS of desperate barks even if you didn't go in the gate. There's nothing like being there. It made me very passionate about it also. What gets me is they are licensed to do what they do, and the AKC APPROVES IT even after physically checking when the conditions are obviously deplorable!! That's why I also HATE AKC! I'm trying to get it shut down but it's VERY tricky given my uncle's a violent drunk and a bunch of other legal stuff I can't get into right now. Let's just say, I'm trying to do what I can and it just breaks my heart! Did you get that pet store shut down? I know there is one near me called The Puppy Den with 2 local locations and I want to shut it down so badly I can't stand it, but I don't know how.... and people don't seem to care where the cute little puppies came from. I guess I'm wondering because if you did, I'd like to know how you did it so I can shut down the ones near me.
Did you ever measure Lacey's height/length? I'm curious to know. I'll bet she's about the same size as my little Titan. I gave him the wrong name lol... He's just a big love to everybody/thing he meets... and silly is his middle name! I'll add more photos soon. I have tons, but most are on another site I use. I just haven't been on here in a little while so it took me a long time to reply. I started volunteering at my local shelter to help out with anything they'll let me do. They've started me off with dog walking and will work me up from there.
About the weird walk... Do you know if she has hip displasia or what's causing it? I'm just really worried that Titan may have it, but right now I can't even afford an X-ray to find out. He doesn't do it very often, but when he does I just get so worried. Bad breeders (like the mill in Iowa Lacey came from, and the place Titan is suspected to have come from) don't check their hips OFA certified, so it's a big problem. What's sad is how avoidable it is... I'd better stop typing now. Have a good one tomorrow!
