I am a Red Cross Volunteer for the American Red Cross Mile High Chapter in Denver Colorado.I am a DAT or Disaster Action Team Member,Shelter Operations Worker,and a Mass Care Worker.I have been a Red Cross Volunteer for 15 months and a year July,August,September,October,November,December 2007,January,February,March,April,May,June,July,August,and September 2008.I work in the Disaster Service Office and the Health and Safety Office every Thursday.I love being a Red Cross Volunteer.Being a Red Cross Volunteer is the most rewarding and unforgettable experience of my life.I work with the most caring,kind,wonderful,amazing,extraordinary,people in the Disaster Service Office and the Health and Safety Office.Every one that I work with knows and likes me.It really does feel like a family at the Red Cross.I really like helping people and making a difference.I believe that I can change the world.I support the American Red Cross so much.If you really want to help people the American Red Cross is the best place where you can help people and make a difference.Here is some information about the American Red Cross and what the American Cross does for those in need.I hope this information helps you better understand more about the American Red Cross.Here is a website you can go to and that website is http://www.redcross.org/.

♢Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguishes itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services, always with the aim of preventing and relieving suffering.
♢Today, in addition to domestic disaster relief, the American Red Cross offers compassionate services in five other areas: community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs.

◆AMERICAN RED CROSS DISASTER SERVICES◆
Each year, the American Red Cross responds immediately to more than ★70,000 disasters,★ including house or apartment fires (the majority of disaster responses), hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous materials spills, transportation accidents, explosions, and other natural and man-made disasters.
♢The Good News Is That We Can Help
Although the American Red Cross is not a government agency, its authority to provide disaster relief was formalized when, in 1905, the Red Cross was chartered by Congress to "carry on a system of national and international relief in time of peace and apply the same in mitigating the sufferings caused by pestilence, famine, fire, floods, and other great national calamities, and to devise and carry on measures for preventing the same." The Charter is not only a grant of power, but also an imposition of duties and obligations to the nation, to disaster victims, and to the people who generously support its work with their donations.
♢Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and health and mental health services to address basic human needs. In addition to these services, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently.
♢The Red Cross also feeds emergency workers, handles inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area, provides blood and blood products to disaster victims, and helps those affected by disaster to access other available resources.
