Proud pet parent of:
The late Near Bella
R.I.P. 12/24/08 - 06/26/09
How we met:
She came into our lives from, what we thought, was a reputable breeder.
Pet likes:
Bella loved our 6 year old daughter, Avery. They were best friends.
Pet dislikes:
The pizza delivery guy.
Pet’s favorite spot:
The couch.
Pet’s favorite toy:
Her soccer ball.
Pet’s silliest habit:
Whenever she walked into my in-laws house, she would pick up a shoe and start walking around the house...but she NEVER ate one!
Pet’s sweetest moments:
Every morning Bella would wait for me to open Avery's bedroom door so she could jump on the bed and snuggle.
I crack up when my pet:
Was getting wound up and started racing around the hosue...and went right through the screen door! Scared her to death!
My pet is unique because:
If she was able to talk...you would think she was human!

Greiving for Bella

On June 26, 2009 I had to make one of the most difficult decisions of my life. Our 6 month old puppy was put to sleep. My partner still weeps when he hears her name, or when our daughter asks us why we brought home a sick dog, or why is Bella in heaven. Avery has also told me, in confidence, that she won't bring up Bella anymore because it makes people cry. We purchased Bella from a breeder...I have since become familiar with the term 'backyard breeder'. In my naivete I thought I was doing the r… Continue

Thank you. I absolutely love this breed! Mason was our first pup and we really didn't know too much about them but as he grew and as we learned we loved everything. We wanted a dog when we bought our house and my co-workers son breed his female mastiff and a stud and when I saw Mason for the first time my heart skipped a beat. We were meant to be together. He is the best dog, it's like he knows what I am thinking all the time. He knows sign language and is just insanely smart (just like your Bella). After he turned one (and we threw him a huge birthday party with all his four-legged friends we decided we wanted another. Then came our little Mena, such a sweetie. She is different than Mason, more independent and a little sassy. She too is super smart, sometimes a little too smart for her own good LOL! At first Mason was a little standoffish, like ok, when is she going home?? But after a few weeks they were best friends. We kept Mason intact (not neutered) and when we sheduled Mena to be spayed, she went into heat (so her, everything on her time) which made me think..hmmm, may be I should breed just once. My sister is a vet and knows a few people that would want a pup and of course I told my fiance I wanted two!!!! I don't know though. I would have a very hard time giving up the pups, I would need to be certain they would go to good homes. Oh well, we have a few more weeks to think about whether or not to spay her. He pups would be sassy like her!!

Hi, I first have to say that I cried reading your story. It really breaks my heart to see anyone lose a pet let alone the way you lost Bella, my heart is so sad for your family and especially Avery.

Regardless of what the breeder says about "defamation and slander" I would not let that stop you from persuing legal action. This has not only affected Bella in the worst way but is has affected this poor little girl who lost her best friend and continues to see your heartbreak as well.

I wish you all the best with this situation. As a mother of two Cane Corso pups I can not imagine going through your struggle. I want to breed my two just to give you a new pup!!

Please, please please don't let this breeder get away with this by threatening to sue you. You have done nothing wrong. If bringing a dog into your home to love and cherish is wrong then a lot of people like you and I, I guess are wrong. Please keep me posted.

it always helps to let it out. everyone deals w/it differently. i swore i would never get another dog three years ago when i had to put mine to sleep - i was so upset. two years later i adopted lucy. i missed not having a dog around. they become part of the family - so grieve for bella and let it out. god bless.

i'm so sorry for what you had to go through. that must have been devastating. just keep in mind that you did everything in your power to get her the help she needed and to make her feel better. know that you made the right decision. years ago my mom had a dog that had siezures (i never witnessed one) and it was so upsetting for her also. you and your family gave her a loving home for her six, short months and i'm sure Bella appreciated all you did for her.
