You can physically do things as well as take part in online Actions for groups like HSUS, ASPCA, WSPA, NWF and more. My group, Activists for Animals sends out many kinds of Action Alerts... or sign up for them yourself.

Also, your local shelter always needs someone to just go there and simply walk the dogs and give attention and love to all of the animals. They are very lonely and this would be very good for them and you. Even the city shelters that euthanize need this, so that is what I suggest. Those animals need love. Also, you might be able to help get the word out on those animals in the city shelters to help save thier lives... since many do not have much time to be adopted. Ask your local shelter how you can help. Even if its as simple as giving love to those animals, its worth while.
Note, some places like the ASPCA have an age requirement. Do some searching through the major org's like ASPCA, HSUS, Bestfriends.org
