three amazing second-hand dogs:
Sara, 11, Doberman Pinscher
Kenya, 7, Malinois mix
Cosmo, 8, Australian Shepherd
How we met:
I adopted Sara from Vancouver (BC) Animal Control in 1999 when I was the volunteer coordinator there. Kenya was a foster dog from the San Francisco SPCA in 2001 - Sara wanted to keep her so we did. And Cosmo joined our family in 2006 after his owners (former training clients) found his behavior issues a little overwheming for their growing family.

Hi Trish!
The dog that is in the picture with you. (looks like he is posing for the picture!) Anyway, what sort of dog is that? Is that a Pitbull, Pit-mix, or an American Bulldog? Just trying to get an idea because it looks exactly like my dog. I got him from a shelter and they had him as a mix-breed of ?....Just thought maybe since they look alike, I may be closer to finding out his roots. Thanks.

I'm sorry I can't find the reswponse you recieved on the anxiety thing? I just went to Dr. Fosters and bought some treasts to calm Commandar daown and I was really wondering if they help and if they are safe?
My doxie seems to suffer from separation anxiety. He urinates inthe house when I leave. If I'm at home, this never happens. He has a doggie door and uses it routinely. Any suggestions to help with this problem?
Delete Comment 2 of my female dogs, Jordan a 9yr old boxer and Mamie, a 4yr old lab mix do not get along anymore. When I first found Mamie she and Jordan were best buddies! But about a year ago they got into a fight. I was not home but my roommate said she was playing with all of them when all of a sudden the 2 were going at it. She could not get them apart, not even when she sprayed them with water. Luckly a neighbor came over to help. Then this past summer, after time apart, I was throwing a toy and could sense tension b/w them. Before I knoe it they were fighting! Of course I tried to stop them and got bit in the process. Mamie(who may have a little pit bull in her) would not let go. She had Jordan by the neck and her jaw was locked. Someone helped me by grabbing one of the other dogs and we got them apart. Then, after several weeks we let them hand out. Everything was fine until out of no where Jordan jumped on Mamie. Jordan had to go to the vet because her neck and ear was punctured. Please help!! I don't want to get rid of Mamie but my boyfriend and my parents think it would be best...
Trish, I have a 2-year-old Corgi mix named Shiloh, who I dearly love. I'm curious about something he does, though. He loves to play fetch. He'll catch anything I throw - a frisbee, a tennis ball, a stuffed toy. He will play and run and jump while I throw toys for him, and he doesn't want to stop. He will run for 30 minutes at a time without stopping even to get a drink. He will run until his sides are heaving because he is panting so hard. By that time, I would like for him to stop and let me pet him or brush him. However, whenever I try that, he usually pulls away from me, grabs a toy and drops it in my lap so I'll keep throwing it. I have done this for as long as an hour, and he still doesn't want to stop. Is there something wrong here? Will he ever want to just sit and let me pet him?
Dear Trish,
I am new to the aspca community and I have been searching on ways to communicate with someone whom knows animals from a personal opinion. I just recieved a very malnourished pitbull and you can see her ribs and spine. I don't know what to do, but people would usually ask questions of what I think, but never brought me a puppy. I like her, but what about training. I need your help and opinion in this situation.
I also have a Doberman Pinscher, Juliet, she just turned 1.
Thank you for the advice. Stray has never latched on to another dog or caused any damage. I did have an instance where he charged the dog on the other side of the fence and while on a walk the dog got out and ran up to Stray. Stray didn't try to attack, he actually seemed a little happy not to have the fence between them. This dog was not the rot. Again, thank you for your adice.
Win?? I didn't realize this was a contest. How come I didn't get the memo?
