Profile Information

My website or blog:
http://www.aspca.org
Proud pet parent of:
Orange sibling kitties Bruce and Maow, who were born April of 2006
How we met:
I adopted them at a tiny, run-down shelter operated by a crazy cat lady.
Pet likes:
Bruce likes watching me cook (and trying to steal food).
Maow likes to sunbathe.
Pet dislikes:
- Being shooed from the table. Again and again and again and again.
- A neat, tidy litter box area. When they see it they must undo it right away.
-My lack of response to their breakfast wakeup calls
Pet’s favorite spot:
Bruce plops himself down on a random spot in the hallway, and Maow favors the top of the couch. Of course, both of them make themselves at home on my dining room table.
Pet’s favorite toy:
Maow loves her 50 cent Spongebob squishies. Bruce steals the caps from my water bottles.
Pet’s silliest habit:
They both dart around the apartment and lightning speed, then stop to lick themselves.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
-My cats have "Elyse is sad" sensors. They come to cuddle with me when I need them the most.
-They greet me at the door when they come home, like doggies. I'd like to think it's not just because they want food.
I crack up when my pet:
Crawls into a suitcase in protest when someone in the house is taking a trip.
My pet is unique because:
Neither can accept that they're merely domestic indoor cats. They're pretty sure they're wildcats and any second now they will finally hunt and kill the pigeons they see out the window.

This is my box

As much as I love talking to ya, I wish I were home squishing up my cuddly orange furry kids!

Bruce and Maow's Roles

Do your animals have roles in their little animal world?
My boy cat, Bruce, is in charge of "hunting" for breakfast (AKA waking me up), while my girl cat, Maow, stands on the bookcase meowing at him and supervising. How amusing is that! It's like they're prehistoric cavemen. I should tell my little orange girl that it's 2008 and she's perfectly capable of hunting herself.

Bruce usually pokes and prods me at 7AM daily until I stir, but for some reason today he curled up in bed next to me and enj… Continue

Yoga Cat

Last night I was home doing my yoga video (yes, video, I'm old school), which never ceases to amaze my orange girl, Maow. As soon as I get the mat out she comes over to scratch it and sniff it.

At one point I was bent over in downward dog (where your body forms an upside down V) and she actually came under me and started stretching! I kid you not!! I had to stop for a sec and give her furry head a kiss!

Don't You Love it When Cheaper is Better?

I'm very pleased with myself at the moment. In the past I bought beautiful -- and pricier -- Christmas ball ornaments for my tree. And of course, last year many of them shattered at the paws of my kittens.

This year, at the 99 cent store, I bought Christmas balls that are perfectly lovely and they don't shatter! So now when I hear my cats stealing balls from off the tree at 3 A.M., I can smile knowing they're safe (the cats and the balls) and enjoying the holiday season in the

Kitty Kolor Koordinating

I recently shopped for a new futon, and made sure to pick a color that would complement my 2 cats' lovely orange hues--since they spend so much time lounging there.

Then I realized...oh wait. I'm actually picking out furniture that would look good with my cats.

Are pets just extra cute and cuddly home accessories?

Dear Elyse,
Greetings, dear friend. I wanted to send a group broadcast to everyone in your group "ASPCA Day", but it seems the button for doing a group broadcast is missing. Could you please help me by doing a copy-and-paste of the following message into a group broadcast to everyone in your group, please? Thge message is as follows:

Greetings. I am under intense pressure and threats of fines, from my home owners association, to get rid of several of my precious puppies. The puppies I need a stable, loving, forever home for are 2 or 3 in my profiles photo. (Also see my slide show.) They are Staffy & Labradore Retreiver mix. The Black & white one is a female; the redish-brown & white one is a male. They were born about the first of the year. They have had their first puppy shots & de-worming. They combine the best qualities of the Staffy (i.e., courage) and the best of the Labradore Retreiver (so smart they seem almost human)! They will be wonderful, loving, faithful family puppies. But they also started growling & barking (only when the situation warrented it) at only three weeks of age! No one can get within a half block of my home but what they sound the alarm! So they will also become wonderful, courageous, fearless watch dogs too!!! At a time when most cities are forced to lay off most of their police force, these dogs will be worth their weight in gold to you & your family's security. They'd also make great tracking, trailing or search & rescue dogs, as both parents have superb noses for that, and can even track on sidewalks and down paved roads! Unfortunately, I just can't keep them all. If anyone is interested, please contact me ASAP, & tell me why you would be the best adoptive person/family for one of my pups. If interested, please respond quickly before I am forced to turn them over to the pound. :-(

Blessings,
Paul

Hi Elyse, I just joined the forum and im here to chat with different kinds of people with the same interest of animals. I am also seeking new ways of how to start my career working with animals. There is such a variety of things i can do. I am a college student, and i want to be on the right path for me instead of waisting my time on my Business major which i have doubts about. I am every passionate about starting a career with animals. I just started doing research on different fields of helping animals. Do you have any advice or websites that can help me choose the right path for me? Thank you
