I'm not trying to be rude, so please don't take offense. I'm just curious as to why you never considered capping your cat's nails or filing them down and instead decided to declaw?

You'll have to try and forgive a lot of them. Most of us have seen some pretty terrible things and people that de-claw typically get the blunt end of the stick. They don't mean to be rude, most are just angry and I think your question made you an ea…

They also say that declawing cats can leave them with phantom pain which is awful to think about. Think about going to sleep and then waking up to find someone had cut YOUR fingernails out of the nail bed. How would you feel? Just trim the cats nail…

Being single, I agree, is NO excuse. Seeing as when I was single I had way more extra money than after getting married and having kids!! I did not grow up with cats though I do have two cats now. They are declawed, but they were declawed as kittens…

Thank you RAB aka Michael. Believe me, one swat, claws or not, would not keep my little ones, Noelle and Hannah away. They just want to play so badly with Mo and Sammy. Mo will tolerate them for quite a while. He is a great big Orange Tabby with a t…

Yes I do Diane as I have a Shih Tzu and he is playing all the time. I have a cat that has claws and she has swatted him a few times and that is all it took He stays clear of her. I would add that if you do have a Shih Tzu having the cat declawed may…

The best plan of attack that I’ve been able to up that works for me is first, get softpaws. If you purchase them from your vet ( theyre usually cheaper) the vet will put them on for you and show you how to do it. They are Very easy to do with a little practice and very cheap. The cat/kitten will still have the urge and need to scratch. I hope you’ve looked at the information that shows why cats NEED their claws, and what happens when you have them removed. (and most of the time, they turn into biters)You’ll still need to get scratching posts. This is where most people mess up. You can’t just have one or two. You need positive scratching areas Everywhere around your house. What you’re going to be doing is, while they have the caps on their claws, you will begin training them what is acceptable to scratch and what isn’t. You have to retrain adults, but kittens are very easy to train. You utilize negative reinforcement for bad places. Water bottles, double sided tape, non toxic chemical sprays (most of them have garlic or pepper). You need to train your cat to not Want to scratch certain areas. Not just to not want to While you’re around. Don’t get mad when they don’t put two and two together. I’ve found that double sided tape works the best for making no scratch and no cat zones. Eventually, your cat will be content scratching on their designated scratching areas. After a couple of months, I don’t even need to use the soft paws anymore. I tend to keep it on the kittens a little longer, simply because they’re more active and run across the couches. It’s all just a matter of training. Once they keep hitting the tape, they lose interest in being in that area. Unless it’s on my or a blanket. Other than that, my two adult cats are never even on the couch unless I’m there.
I hope you’re be able to pass on what you’re learned to others and teach them the reality of de-calwing.
If you need anything, we’re just a click away!!!

Thank you for deciding to not de-claw your cat! If you have any problems with training your cat, let us know. I myself have leather furtiture and have yet to have any problems. I foster cats& kittens.

I am glad you are choosing not to declaw, I know it can be hard when training but there are options...if need any help or suggestions ask away. Have just one kitty now, she was a challenge to train, as scratchers all carpeted or rope and she was into upholstry, but she learned.

DiAnn thank you for the kind words. I'm sure that I am not speaking for only myself when I say that it is often hard to remember those memories when you are hurting, it seems like it makes the pain even more real but it is necessary. Our loved ones…

I'm not telling you what to eat, just that I do not encourage the cruel treatment of factory animals, the way that they are transported nor the way that they are killed. If you believe that the burger that you eat is in anyway moral, then go ahead,…
