I know what you mean, my Mary is an organic space heater. I never get cold in the winter because she's so warm and snuggles right next to me along my back w/her head on my pillow.
So far, I've lost 5 prs of slippers (1 pr wasn't even mine) and 2 blankets. Stuffed toys are now banned in my home also. They last approximately 3 to 5 minutes before they're toast. I just stick to bones and braided ropes for my girl now.
what can I do to help? besides write to these "people"? I live in MI and the Detroit Humane Society has been killing pits for years simply because of the breed.

I only have one son who has yet to marry, but some day he'll settle down and find the right one - at least that's what he keeps telling me :) I look forward to seeing the pictures of your entire family! - Well, you know.. I still have alot of respect for Pits. I think they make great dogs given the right owners and the right situation, but like German Shepherds, they aren't a dog for everyone. Back when I used to take my two dogs (very dog social) to the bark park, their favorite playmates were two pit bulls. Now that we have the third I can't do that as he is not dog social.. in fact, he's dog aggressive (he was abused). We're working on that, but he may never get to enjoy the fun of a bark park.
Pit Bulls I still believe can snap and have their aggressions at any given moment, but that's in part due to their breeding. It takes a strong, loving person to have them.. and they are lucky to own one. Not everyone likes a german shepherd because of their propensity for aggression but as long as I am aware of it, we don't have problems. I've owned them all my life and have never had an experience of aggression. However, I am not so foolish to believe that the potential isn't there.
My heart just breaks for Oreo. I didn't intend to sound callous, but I am a realist and I've worked with enough badly abused dogs to know that some dogs literally lose their minds and it is cruel, in my opinion, to keep them alive - never having known love of another dog or from a human.
Congrats on the new baby! I can't wait to see her pictures. Your lab will have an absolute ball with her! I just posted a picture in the forum of my two younger ones.. they play CONSTANTLY!!!! They also get into alot of mischief if I turn my back on them for an instant. I fully expect to come home one day and see my couch in shreds. LOL

- Keari, thanks for the friends add. I'm happy to accept. The thing about that conversation is I totally understand the anger and frustration. Maybe I see a bit of myself in that reaction.. years ago. Now that I'm older and I've been working in abuse situations awhile.. plus 20 years in the criminal justice court system.. I see things from a different perspective. I have seen a few things that the ASPCA has done that I might not agree with.. but I still support the overall program. They have been an incredible ally to animals in need all across the country.. and to demonize them for this incident without all the facts is premature. I've been holding my tongue though.. LOL!!
