The other day Lakota FINALLY took a biscuit out of my hand. After he stared at it for quite some time, drooled, looked at me to see if I was watching him he finally snatched it out of my hand. As he ate it, he watched me as if he was going to get in trouble for eating it. After he was done, I offered him another, this time he took it gently. I still did not look at him when he took it, but after several times of doing this, he allowed me to watch him take the biscuit and eat it. However, every t…

The other night I heard some commotion in my spare bedroom where Lakota was. I immediately got up and went to check on him. As I opened the door, the silly boy had a box of biscuits in his mouth. he had carried it over to his bed. well, when he seen me he dropped the biscuits between his feet (he was standing) and just stood there and stared at me as if to say "what? It wasn't me!". His personality is coming out more and more finally.

Lakota is progressing nicely. He now has free roam of the house (with supervision). he has the occasional bathroom issue, but we are getting there. He still is so scared of things, he is so much more comfortable with my pit bull Val in the house with him. I heard him for the first time howl the other morning. We went out for his morning bathroom break, and I put him back into his bedroom. As I was getting ready to go back to bed for a hour or so, I heard some whining, then this howl, that was th…

lakota has his good days and his bad days. yesterday was a bad day for him. he was even more skittish then usual. We took him outside for awhile and walked him around in the little bit of snow that was left after our little warm spell here. You would have thought we were doing the meanest thing in the world to him. When I stooped down to put his leash on in the house, he pooped. he does this when he gets too scared of something. We proceeded into the back yard and every little sound he would lay…

Tanya, this is such an appropriate quote, I have to use it here!
"Never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way." ~~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Lakota has ARRIVED! He pulled into Lansing around noon, where we met a wonderful woman who brought him to us from Coldwater, MI. he was very scared upon first meeting, But laid quietly through the entire ride back to Linwood, MI, where he was brought into his new room, showed his new toys, and he went right over and laied on his bed. I have been for the last hour sitting quietly in the room with him, pretty much ignoring him (BOY that is hard for me to do), so that he gets used to me b…

Lakota the 15 year old Malamute that was pulled out of a high kill pound in LA,CA and fostered by Tuffies Animal rescue in AZ, is finally on his way home to Michigan. He will be picked up today at noon by Operation Roger, a group of truckers that volunteer their time to helping transport animals to their final destination. We will be picking Lakota up in Wisconsin late next week. This has been a LONG HARD ROAD, but we did it. We still need donations however for his vet care wh…

Lakota is still with the rescue that pulled him. Sadly, the cost of airfair went up because of his height of 35 inches to a whopping total of $750.00 plus crate cost. We have 388.00 donated and saved for him, but it will not be enough to fly him right now. Lakota is still doing good in the rescue that has him and they are trying all they can from their end also to find transport. Transport does take time especially when it is this far away. We have been working VERY hard looking…

We spoke with the holding rescue last night. Lakota is doing well. He has had very little socialization and was obviously an outdoor dog that was chained up all of the time. They said he has some trouble with stairs but does well with walking on the leash to go out to the bathroom. He does huddle in the back of his crate and acts as he does not trust people. he is in no way agressive they said. This poor boy only weighs 68 pounds! He is also loosing a lot of fur in clumps due…

Well, my boy is still in AZ. I am looking into another method to get him home. Delta airlines will help us by flying him cargo. It will be a 10 hour trip, but at least he will be here and it would be a done deal. I am only 138.00 short of funding to be able to get him to Michigan. I hope some of you will find it in your hearts to help him. He is almost within reach finally, now money is the only hold up. Please please help by making a donation

It has been a long hard road, but we now have Lakota safe in a holding rescue until the transport team can arrange to get him. He is doing better and seems to be over the URI. The rescue told me he is just like his picture, and is very calm. I will have more updates on this sweet boy as I get them.
Thank you for all of the prayers said for him. They worked!
We are still looking for donations for this guy, to help with holding costs, transportation as well as vet care when he arrives in Michigan.…
