Rhiannon and Winston are proud parents as of 12/02/08

Rhiannon had 1 boy and 4 girls all tri's. They are all strong and healthy. I did take Rhiannon to the vet this morning to make sure there were no more pups since I thought I felt one but the vet clarified that it is just an oversized area of the uterus and she looks great. She said that Rhiannon doesn't look like a female who just had a litter. Clean bill of health. These pictures were taken before 12 hrs old.

Ordinary Pets To The Rescue With Animal-Human Therapy Teams

By Sharon L. Peters, Special for USA TODAY DENVER — Most of the time, Biscuit the bulldog is just a regular stubby-legged young dude who runs around the yard collecting sticks and making everyone laugh with his goofy antics. But each Friday, once he dons his green work vest, he adjusts his jowly mug into an expression of genial concern, discards all thoughts of canine capers and calmly sets about the business of cheering up stroke patients or encouraging children in their classrooms. PHOTOS: S… Continue

Do You Know The Real PETA and Humane Society Of The United States?

You will not often see negative articles in our newsletters, but every now and again we are forced to make a stand, and to speak out about what we know is for the better good for all involved. This is one such instance. We can no longer stand back and watch to see what will happen. I think that it is past time to publicly expose the real agenda of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and their cohorts in crime, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and the animal rights a… Continue

A haven for abuse victims who keep their pets close

When Rose Terry finally resolved to leave her abusive boyfriend, she knew she’d have to live in a shelter for a few weeks before she could start life anew. She had no reservations about that. But she anguished over Byron, the cat who had seen her through the awful times. None of her friends could take the female feline (the family was first told she was male, hence the name), and she couldn’t bear the thought of placing her in an animal shelter until she got back on her feet. “I was desperate,… Continue

My new little girl will be arriving tomorrow!

I'm very excited to see my new little Low Rider. She will be arriving around 2:45p Monday and I can't wait. I will be getting plenty of pictures of her to share w/you all and would like some input on names for her. I want something that has meaning behind it. Preferrably a Welsh name but not necessary. I just hope she doesn't get too scared or nervous over her flight and becomes ill. So if I'm not here much tomorrow or for the next couple of days its because I am attending to her to make her fee… Continue

Blasted Exotic Disease

Does your dog hunt? Does he dig? What dog doesn’t? They all do. Is the woods around your house and kennels damp or is there a pond or stream or any source of moisture? Well, good grief, what woods isn’t? Are you going to let your dog do what comes naturally for dogs to do? Dig, that is. And why not, you may ask? Well, here is a why not! BLASTOMYCOSIS!! And just what is that that would kill a dog just for doing what comes naturally. Blastomycosis is a fungal disease caused by Blastomyces dermatid… Continue

Cared for pets let ill rest easier

Non-profit programs such as Safe Place are quietly sprouting all over the country to ensure that critically or terminally ill people have one less stressor. “Most people regard their pets as an important part of the family,” says Safe Place founder Joanne Bonicelli. “The peace of mind of knowing that this animal will be cared for is very significant.” Some ill people have few relationships and therefore no alternative-care option for their animals; for various reasons, sometimes even those wit… Continue

Washington DC Perspective...

WASHINGTON DC PERSPECTIVE....By Frank Losey 2008 FARM BILL - - NEVER ENDING SAGA ABOUT TO END!!!!: By the time this article is published, the “Farm Bill” should finally be law. I say “finally” because the 2008 Farm Bill was passed by Congress; then vetoed by the President; then Congress “overrode” the President’s veto only to discover that a technical “omission” occurred, which then resulted in Congress correcting the technical “omission” and passing the Farm Bill for the second time, only to ha… Continue

BRAINPOWER...CAN YOU SPARE SOME?

BRAINPOWER—CAN YOU SPARE SOME? We seem to be short on it around here. I feel that there are a lot of readers who know more than just how to raise dogs. Many of you have a profession and dogs are a sideline. NAPO would like to tap that expertise. We envision NAPO as being a 20 million member national organization someday, probably long after I am dead and gone, but maybe you young folks will donate me a plaque. You can find a plaque on E street in San Bernardino Calif. to the McDonald Brothers fo… Continue

Obama or McCain Are Not Good For Our Profession

SLIM PICK’INS By Jim Hughes No!! I am not talking about the movie star/rodeo clown. I am talking about our upcoming presidential election. Chances are overwhelming that either Senator Obama or Senator McCain will be our next president. Either way does not spell good for our profession. First, let’s take a look at Senator McCain. He has earned a 75 percent approval rating on the Animal Activist list of approved legislators. He has co-sponsored legislation to stop horse slaughter in the United Sta… Continue

Xylitol Toxic and Fatal To Dogs

Xylitol Toxic and Fatal To Dogs August 6, 2008 by wendtworth By Sharon L. Peters, Special for USA TODAY A sugar substitute found in a variety of sugar-free and dietetic cookies, mints and chewing gum is proving highly toxic, even fatal, to snack-snatching dogs. Xylitol, popular in Europe for decades but a relative newcomer to the U.S. alternative-sweeteners market, can be “very, very serious” to dogs when ingested, says Dana Farbman, spokeswoman for the Animal Poison Control Center of the Ameri… Continue
