Thanks for the info. I will check with Sargeant's vet. He is due for his shots next month. Might move that up. I am really leary of even taking him for a walk, but if I don't he paces around the house. I just keep a close eye on what he sniffs.

Hi Amy,
Just a note regarding IAMS and also food additives to pet foods. I thank you placing the IAMS post, it got me to start a little research of my own and Ellaine has been very helpful in providing me with her correspondence with IAMS.

I am getting ready to feature this story on my pet sit blog so that my customers and other consumers can be made aware of the true story about IAMS. This is why the ASPCA community is so important, it helps all of us get the word out to each other.

If you have any other information on IAMS (besides the video on YouTube) please let me know.

And you really peaked my curiosity about the food additives. This again is something many consumers do not know. Please, forward me any information you have found.

Consumer Affairs (consumeraffairs.com) has some very interesting news items regarding pet food - I provided a link at the end of this message.

Here is a link to my pet sit blog about the recent findings on Nutro foods: http://www.securepet.biz/wordpress/2008/08/nutro-food-update/

Here is what I found out about some other interesting additives:
Back in December of 2007 lab tests confirmed Menu Foods cat food contained acetamoninophen and melamine. In addition, acetaminophen was also discovered in other samples of dog and cat food. (As you know Menu Foods Inc. supplies many manufacturers of pet food with the ACTUAL product, the companies just slap their label on it!)

You can read more about it here:

I saw it on the news. After I saw the news report about the animal shelter, I did my own research on this "new" parvo. The research I saw states that dogs that are vaccinated are safer from it than dogs that aren't. You would not believe the groups I found that feel that vaccinations are the pharmaceutical companies using scare tactics to get vets and owners to spend more money on the company's products. Will give you a holler if we get back to that neck of the woods.

If I ever get to go again, I will shoot you a comment and maybe you will be able to be there too. Do you think attendance at the dog parks will start to go down with this parvo 2c scare? I heard on the news last night that now the Petsmart Plus will no longer allow dogs in their store. I am not sure how that will work because the one on 28th St has a Pet Hotel, plus they do grooming and training classes. Hysteria can really run rampant quickly.

Uhhh! I did an extensive research on food additives, food coloring,etc...a few years ago and what I found was disgusting. AND there are almost 300 KNOWN genetic birth defects from this garbage. We are very picky eaters, so we thought we were doing a good thing for Lulu with the Eukanuba. When she was a baby she was poisoned (or chewed a wire, we will never know but the rescue we got her from was all outside, so...) and could only eat boiled ground beef and rice. It was so hard to switch her off her diet. Thankfully she loves her new food, even more than the Eukanuba. Thank you, Ellaine!

I am on the PETA site and found some of the information you are are referring to. I am contacting our shelter director to let her know that we need to stop using this product for our kittens. This is deplorable! Thanks for informing us about it.

Hi there, thanks for the info about IAMs I am going to research this and post it on my web site blog. I still puzzled as to why they would need to do this type of research. I did not see a link to that portion of the PETA site. But I am certain I can locate the info. Also, when you receive the two-page document on this would you mind sharing with me how I can obtain a copy of it as well?

Thanks for the comment about Lizzie! She is such a wonderful dog. And yes, she WILL have a good, good life.

Hugs,
Gyvel

That is funny. Sargeant knows when we are about a block or two away from the park where we are going. When we pull into the driveway to the parking lot he starts his excited barking. Sargeant plays with anyone that wants to run.

Hey Amy...Thank you for your comment :) I do not feel indifferent to you in any way. I feel it is a good debate, our opinions may differ, but we have all done research and have kept it mature and level headed. Unfortunatly as with many things on the internet you can find research to support either view of any topic. I too grew up on the race track. We all have our opinions. I still have many life long friends that have made a career in the sport...but off the subject cute Family! I love the pic of your puppy in the blanky!
