Naming your pet?

Just wondering what thoughts you guys have on naming your pets. Do you name them after celebrities, fictional characters, people you've met? Do you give them proper names or maybe just a descriptive name ("Smoky", "Precious", etc.)?

I ask because my sister is considering getting a cat, and at one shelter she met a cat named "Pizza Party", which seemed a little weird.

I just came back from vacation in Palm Beach where I bought a book called "Cats and Their Slaves" by Michelle Lavric. The book states, "T.S. Eliot observed that 'cats should have three names: an everyday one, something rather more grand and then the name that the cat has for himself..'..there are times when nothing less than full ceremonial titles will serve."

My mother always said that my ragdoll cat Elsa (named by her breeder; I adopted her when she was three years old) should be called "The Queen of Sheeba." Now that I have this book, I realized, yes, "She is Elsa, Queen of Sheeba" as for her 3rd name, suggesting that she should name herself...I have yet to figure that one out.

My dogs' name is Buster and I named him that because he busted into my heart after a horrible time with my last dog who died of old age.
My two cats' names are Boots and Chloee. Obviously Boots is because all her paws are white like boots and the rest of her is black.
Chloee got her name (how embarrassing) from Bratz. There is a bratz doll named Cloe and I thought that was cute but I wanted the spelling to be different.

Usually I just use descriptive names, lol. Some of the animals I've had in the past were named, 'Puppy', 'Kitty'. Lol. When I moved in with my husband he had a cat named, 'Senator' (he was fat and lazy).
Also, my current pets are named, 'Tiger' (Orange tabby), 'Bela' means beauty in Portuguese, Crete (found under concrete railroad ties).

Just name the new buddy whatever comes to mind! Be creative....or don't! =P

My brother gave his cat a name that cant even be spelled. I usually just give the animal a name that reflects what I feel when I first meet it.
