Hello All,

I am in the midst of learning more about some of the tradegies of factory farming. I often shop and Wild Oats and Whole Foods and am told that that they do not purchase any food where animals are treated humanely treated. With these stores being large and being part of chains, does anyone have any concerns that this may not true or even manageable?

Hi Ivy,

That's great that you seek out places where they are treated humanely; I do the same too; It's become habit to turn products over to see the "we do not test on animals" logo.

Wild Oats helped with some fundraisers and donations; I'd hope that they strive for the best humane treatment!

I would definitely have concerns, and I would ask for a copy of the corporate statement which codifies this pledge to source exclusively from producers who follow humane protocols. The meats would carry a correspondingly high price: factory farming (and inhumane transporting and slaughter) is the norm, not the exception. If true, the company should be proud to make this available to you.

Whole foods has actually taken over Wild Oats, even though the name hasnt changed. I have been shopping at Wild oats for about 15 years and also at Whole Foods. You can trust them... they have had the policy to only sell meats that were humanely treated. Just ask them if you want further confirmation... but they have always posted that info at the counter. Its good that you are learning about factory farming. I have been aware of if for about 22 years now. If you want to do some real action to help stop it, please go to HSUS.org and find join the Action Alert team. They get a lot done.
see: http://www.hsus.org/farm/ and find actions to do there... and then help in all the other areas as well... its super easy and feels good too.
also see WSPA-USA.org and even join the ASPCA brigade.
