If you don't know who HLS (Huntingdon Life Sciences), then go here and find out: http://www.shac.net/

HLS Supplier – Phenomenex
=========================

Phenomenex are a company that deals with Huntingdon and we know that they are significant to keeping HLS in business. Their UK director said in a legal statement that HLS would have difficulty operating without Phenomenex's support.

We are calling upon activists everywhere to stand up for the animals, make their cries heard and help shut HLS down for good.

Whether you send e-mails, write letters, make phone calls or attend demonstrations, the animals need YOU!

If we all pull together it's amazing what can be achieved! Remember to keep your communications polite and informative and remember that in this world things don't happen unless you make them happen.

Thanks and good luck.

==========

Dear Sir/Madam,

You may not be aware that HLS is the worlds most exposed animal testing laboratory. They have been caught out on film several times committing acts of cruelty both in the US and the UK.

They have been caught punching beagle puppies, and cutting open live primates without pain killers. They have been exposed for shoddy work, and falsified data. During one study on wild caught baboons HLS broke the law over 520 times but were never prosecuted.

Last year, a senior scientist from HLS in the USA has filed a lawsuit after he claims he was being pressured into falsifying data.

This is a sham of a company with a poor reputation and I should not think you would like to be associated with this.

I don't expect you to take my word for it but you can see the cruelty
yourself, as shown on national TV: http://www. shac.net/HLS/exposed. html.

For other exposes into HLS, see: http://www. shac.net/MISC/Inside_HLS. html

I urge Phenomenex to stop dealing with a lab involved in such horrific animal cruelty.

Thank you for your time, and I do hope that you will be reconsidering your position and will not supply HLS.

Yours sincerely,

Senior Management

Unspeakable and institutionalized cruelty to laboratory animals goes on every day of the year within the facilities of HLS: all in the name of profit-making. Everyone with a conscience should consider taking time to learn about and work to financially strangle this firm, and commit to boycotting their clients.

HLS (Huntington Life Sciences) is a contract animal testing laboratory, (they will perform tests for anyone who pays them) and will conduct conventional (and painful) toxicity tests and vivisection for companies that make chemicals, drugs, pesticides, cosmetics, or household goods. Their list of clients is quite broad. The terrors that are carried out every single day behind its doors, operated as a business, are unspeakable. For HLS, vivisection on animals is “just a job.” I assure you that, if you were to read about or view pictures of what HLS does on a daily basis, you would probably be ill. Undercover investigations by animal welfare groups have documented specifically abusive treatment of many different animals, most offensively by laboratory employees physically abusing and mocking animal subjects; experiments (such as dissection) done on live animals; and experiments done without anesthesia. In one “study,” a quarter of the African baboons used died from “technical failures,” i.e., mistakes. HLS offers testing such as "acute oral, dermal and inhalation toxicity; primary dermal and eye irritation; dermal sensitization; genotoxicity; neurotoxicity; subchronic oral, dermal, and inhalation toxicity; reproductive toxicity, including multigeneration and teratogenicity studies; lifespan toxicity and oncogenicity (i.e., cancer studies), and histopathology." This company has been under intense pressure for years in Europe, which nearly caused its financial collapse: and has moved some of its financial services to the US so that its backers can avail themselves of stricter finance laws that keep shareholder information confidential (owing to a scandal of monumental proportions in the UK regarding its source of funding the government’s complicity in refusing to investigate allegations of cruelty and financial mismanagement). The correct tack to take is to target companies that engage HLS to test its products, and let them know you will no longer patronize them as a result of their decision to use HLS. Most immediately, you need to confront the fundamental failure of our government to enforce basic animal welfare laws. You need to contact your legislators and implore them to press for ENFORCEMENT of animal welfare laws, which is clearly not happening, right here in the US at HLS facilities in New Jersey. I posted a discussion as a "cheerleading" device, on communicating with your representatives, under the Helping Animals Group, "How Can I Make a Difference for Animals in 2008?" which may be useful:

Just to add to this, the American Red Cross apparently honored Phonemenex for its commitment to blood blood supplies.
What a sad day when so called Humanitarian organizations reward practices that involve such cruelty.

Then pehaps the Red Cross deserves a letter that I can no longer support any of their fund raising efforts until they retract this "honor."
