Adopt-A-Bull Contest!

(Get it? Adopt-A-Bull? Adoptable? Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaha..ah, never mind.)

Nobody loves a story about someone finding their perfect four-legged match as much as we do—except maybe you. Now, we’re putting out a call for adoption success stories featuring pit bulls. What better way to get the word out that pit bulls can indeed make loving and loyal, delightful and devoted companions?
We've launched the Adopt-A-Bull Contest (pretty clever, if we do say so ourselves), sponsored by the New York-based Animal Farm Foundation, Inc, a group dedicated to protecting American pit bull terriers from discrimination and cruelty. We're accepting nominations of successful adoptions of pit bulls made at shelters using the ASPCA’s Meet Your Match™ program. MYM focuses on the individual dog and adopter—making matches based on an individual dog’s behavior and the lifestyle and expectations of the adopter.

The contest will run four times throughout the year, with one winner announced each quarter. The winning shelters will be awarded a $4,000 grant, and the dog-and-pet parent matches from each winning shelter will score a prize pack and automatically be entered into the “Vote for Your Favorite Match” contest, which will take place here, online at ASPCA.org., in February 2009. Yep, we’ll be asking you to cast their vote for your favorite couple, so stay tuned!

The grand-prize shelter winner will be treated to a trip to New York City to participate in the third annual ASPCA Day celebration (that’s April 10, 2009) and a $5,000 grant, and the pet parent-pooch duo who receives the most votes in our online contest will win a photo shoot with a professional photographer and a bronze of their top dog.

And if, over the course of the contest, any of our winning dog-human duos get you thinking that a pit bull might make a perfect match for your family, please visit ASPCA.org for more information…that’s the point of our contest, after all!

Wonderful idea! What about the people living in city's that have BSL, restrictions or Shelters that don't support the adoption of bully breeds and the owners or potential adopters are afraid for their "pit bull". Should they not enter even if they really want to help save the breed and give a dog a much needed loving home?

I don't know if Meet Your Match was used, but Sarah was a pound rescue. I went looking for a small dog because I was in an apartment at the time, but is was her face that grabbed me and she has been at my side ever since. Does that count?

I adopted mine :) But I didn't adopt it from the shelter. We knew someone that was going to take her's to the pound (5 weeks old no less!!!) and we interviened. Our Pit Bull is a wonderful large part of my family (I have put up a couple of pictures as well).

Hi My neighbors adopted a pit bull, normally stays in their yard they came to visit me and dog must have heard their voices and came over to my place, where he attacked my cat, chasing him into my home. They of course took the dog back home... but then spent some good time with training. I went to cut hay near their home (rode my horse there), dog came out barking and advancing towards my horse who looked at me instead of the dog, to see what he was supposed to do(horse attacks on command, or NOT attacks when told), I told him to ignore the dog, then started to put myself between the two. But stopped, dogs owner came out, told the dog to come, dog stopped (was protecting their space) and returned to owner. PROPER training, goes a long ways!!!! Just a success story of right dog adopted for right owner with a very positive ending. I am against the discrimination of animals (any species or bloodlines) but very much in favor of their human companions "education" for that type of animal.
Here is a link to Meet Your Match I believe in meet your match, to find the "one" who matches you, is to provide the best life, for the one who needs you most and you will mean the most to. Each animal is an individual, including humans :)
Educated animal caregivers make things easier for other educated caregivers, if you yearn for an animal in your life, learn as much as you can first, how to provide a life for that animal. Doing so prevents cruelty to animals, through understanding. And protects, responsible caregivers and their breeds from being, labeled....
