I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to take care of blackheads on my cat, Maggie's chin. I was her chin two to three times a week, have tried pyoben gel prescribed by the vet, antibiotics, and changing her food and water dishes(she'll only drink out of a fish bowl and have changed that a couple of times), but she still has them.
sometimes it's chronic. Just like in humans. My cat has it too, but not too bad.
It might be the water as well - just like certain kinds of water will make us break out - it can have the same effect on animals...
ah, we had another discussion on this not long ago. I can go search for it. It is caused by bowls not being watched out, particularly plastic bowls. I switched to glass and started washing them daily and it cleared up
I switched from plastic to glass too. I was her dishes out a couple times a week, should maybe start washing them everyday before I refill with fresh water.
HI..I HAVE HAD MANY CATS, DOING RESCUE..AND I NEVER USE ANY PLASTIC FOR THEM OR MYSELF..
AND WHEN WASHING OUT THE BOWLS, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE A SPRAY BOTTLE OF WHITE VINEGAR ON THE SINK TO SPRAY AND GET OFF THE DETERGENT..FOR US AND THEM..
THERE ARE TERRIBLE THINGS IN THE DETERGENTS..AND WHEN YOU SPRAY WITH VINEGAR, AND THEN RINSE WITH WATER YOU WILL SEE THE WHITE 'FILM' COME OFF..
IT IS USED TO KEEP THEM FROM SPOTTING..
That's one problem I had never come across. Though I had used plastic bowls in the past, then changed to metal bowls. Cleaned them twice a day, every day. Guess that's why I haven't come across that problem. Beats me. There are some great suggestions in here.
my cat did have this a couple of times. It was tiny bits of food that gets in the pours(especially around the mouth and chin).I bought a soft baby brush for him to rub his chin on---and he does get down too. Then I would wipe his face with a warm wash cloth.Change water bowl every day--sometimes more. Also if a cat gets a claw mark frm self or other cat it will leave a sore that looks like a pimple.Let it heal.Don't put human creams on it.Sometimes the food does stick to their face.I never use metal bowls.Glass is better for kitties for they eat more.My experience.Hope this helps.J.
