More to the point, does your pet let you??

What have been some memorable costumes? If you have pics, we wanna see!

Got anything good in mind for this year?

I love to dress my pets up for Halloween. Unfortunately, not all four of them like it. My favorite outfit is "Dracu-dog" with my basenji-mix or chihuahua as dracula. They look so cute when the cape flies out from behind them as they jump off and on the couch. I don't make my fox terrier dress up; it scares him. I haven't tried to dress up the dachshund yet. That will come this year. I do know that my chihuahua LOVES to wear hats! I think she believes they are her crown and she is the queen. :-)

My mini daschound loves to be dressed this will be his first halloween I will be dressing him up as a cowboy with a little hat and everything I started dressing him when we first got him at 10 weeks old he didnt like it then but got used to it and know he helps me by staying still and putting his head down so he can get into the shirt or sweater or rain coat I put on him.

I LOVE dressing my pets up and not just for Halloween! All of my pets let me dress them without much argument. My little Lhasa Apso is the best though because she LOVES dressing up she gets super excited when I bring out the box of her outfits and accessories. My favorite costume would definitely have to be the princess costume that I bought for my dogs a few years back. I don't know what I am going to dress them up as this year, but I can't wait!

No I dont because i think it is cruel to dress them up. They probablly dont like it

It isn't cruel if they LIKE wearing costumes. Harley likes clothes/costumes; but he doesn't like sweaters. Too itchy. I think I will dress him up as a scarecrow =]

my dog likes it if he didnt he wouldnt let me do it, when he was younger he wouldnt let me do it know that he is older and he is a short hair mini daschund they get cold so he doesnt mind it he lets me know when he wants it off he will rub his back on the cornors of stuff and then I take it off it isnt cruel it is only cruel if you force them when they dont like it

but how do you know if your dog really hates it?

If they put up a fight when you are trying to dress them, or if the act completely miserable when dressed up...

It really depends on the dog- and you'll know if they don't. Granted, my dogs are used to only wearing sweaters in the winter(they're tiny with short hair and freeze easy), it's pretty easy to tell. One of them sits there and likes keeping his sweater on, the other puts up a hissy fit(so we had to get him a sweater that velcros around the neck and stomach) and doesn't like getting normal sweaters on.

It really depends on the animal. I have 4 dogs and 2 of them like it. My Pug will drag her bag with costumes, sweaters, and hats to you when she wants to get dressed up. She also crys if you take her collar off. Pugs are notorious lovers of clothes. My 2.5lb pomeranian also likes to put on a sweater on cold winter days. She is very small, loses body heat very quickly and looks forward to the added warmth. Living in Northern MN even a quick jaunt outside can chill you to the bone.

I agree it is cruel if they indicate that they don't like it. Behavior when dressed is the key. Tugging, itching or just plan not moving would indicate they were disturbed. If they behave normally or behave in an excited manner they either are indifferent or actually happy about it.

Yes, my little man lets me dress him up. Rather he tolerates it very well. He will hold still and let me dress him and will put up with the photo shoot that always follows. He LOVES his pajammas and will whine and cry at night until I put on his jammies or if it is summer, I put on a light weight t-shirt and he is happy with that.
I have no idea, what costume he will actually wear this year. I have bought him a skeleton, pumpkin, and a security guard outfit. He looks cute in them all, so who knows which one he will end up having on. Who knows at his nursing home visit, he may even have a costume change half way through his visit.
