Hi Doc, i have an 8 year old toy poodle, that has diabeties for about 2 years, we recently had her teeth done and checked her blood levels to insure that there is no pancreatities.. how ever she has arthrities, and is very sore..
Is their any kind of supplement out there, thats not full of sugar that i am able to give zena to help her arthrities? thanks Wanda
Senior little dogs are my favorites :). We are really just discovering in veterinary medicine how much managing pain can impact animals' lives. You are totally right that she might feel much better on medication for chronic arthritis. There are a number of medications made just for dogs that work similarly to aspirin (not aspirin - this can be hard on a dog's GI tract). I would talk to your vet about prescription arthritis medication - non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and joint supplements. She should be able to be on these medications without impact on her diabetes. Good luck!
