2 rescued Saint Bernards. The girl had been physically and emotionally abused and the boy had been badly neglected. The girl is now a registered therapy dog and the boy is the biggest lambchop in the entire world. I couldn't ask for sweeter, more loving companions!
How we met:
My first Saint (who was also rescued) had to be put to sleep. The rescue organization notified me the little girl was coming into rescue. I offered to foster over a long weekend and the result was obvious.
Pet likes:
Little kids, big kids, dogs, cats, birds, tummy rubs, morning "cookies" from the neighbors, dog parks, long walks, brushings, sun baths, cold water with crushed ice, freezing weather, nonsense talks with them, snuggling, freezing weather, home-made lasagna, Ben and Jerry's ice cream, plain low-fat yogurt, afternoon naps on the couch, Animal Planet, good music, visiting the neighbors, meeting new friends (4-legged or 2-legged), car rides, massages...you name it and they will almost certainly enjoy it
Pet dislikes:
grapefruit juice
Pet’s favorite spot:
The little boy has claimed the spot by the bed. He has a lovely soft triple eggshell mattress topper. I've fallen asleep on it while snuggling with him. The little girl has chosen to sleep on the bed with me. I sleep at a 45-degree angle so she has enough room.
Pet’s favorite toy:
Any squeaky toy - but I had to buy an extra toy carrot in case she destroyed the first one. I'd hate to tell her it was gone. I've had "funerals" for her toys beyond repairs and have had to wait until she was sound asleep before disposing of the toy properly. The little boy is more interested in food than toys.
Pet’s silliest habit:
The highlight of the little girls' day is to go out and pick up poop. She must think this is simply grand based on the way she wags her tail, runs around the house and leaps in the air when I'm outside cleaning up.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
She puts her head on my feet and looks at me with so much love. He leans on me when I'm standing and puts his arm over me when I lie down next to him.
I crack up when my pet:
plays hide-and-seek and catch-me-if-you-can in the house. They will each "hide" and pounce out when the other goes by. Let the games begin! They chase each other through the house, out the den slider, back in through the doggie door in the bedroom, around the house, out the den slider, in through the doggie door, etc. until one gets tired. The boy will then make a bounding leap for the sofa. Once on the sofa he's "safe" and the games are over for a bit.
My pet is unique because:
of all the above reasons. They're simply the best and sweetest ever (which I tell them at least once a day)! :)
