Hi Suzanne!
You and I spoke back in April about getting started with a library/reading program with your therapy dog. Greer Griffith, (who is on the online community) is a great resource. She just sent me an email regarding some opportunities, and I think one of them might be a good fit for you. There is a library program in Queens, and the pet partner team is retiring (due to dog's age) and they are looking for a team to get involved. Here is part of the description:

"She used to go to the school library at noon for a half hour and meet with three children that the librarian had selected. Either the students bring books they would like to read or the librarian select the books. Everyone sits on the floor and takes turns reading. When everyone finished they gave the dog a treat, shook her dog's "paw," or asked him to "sit". She praises the librarian as easy to work with and very accomodating. The agesof the children she worked with were first and third graders. She used to go to the school library at noon for a half hour and meet with three children that the librarian had selected. Contact Greer for some more info! All the best! Kirby

Have you tried reading specialists and teachers in public or private schools? I know of teams that are working in schools.

Hi Suzanne,
Sophia and I are a Delta Certified Pet Therapy team, and I am finishing up my graduate work in school psychology. I too had thought of combining my experience as an educator with pet therapy work. I have done some research in piloting reading programs with therapy dogs, and I may have some information that would be helpful. Let me know if your interested! Missy is adorable!

Hello Suzanne: Missy is so adorable! How old are you and what state do you live in? Is Missy your only dog? My dog and your dog would be best friends if they met each other. They like doing the same exact things! :-)
