11 cats and two dogs:
Dogs - Emmitt, a Cairn Terrier who is 9 and the father of our Homer, an 8 year old half Cairn and half Pekignese (haha!). They are adorable and understand that the cats rule the house.
Cats - Charlie is 13 and a tiger tabby - he weighs about 20 lbs! He is the KING of the house!!
Tessie is 6 and is all black and a total biotch! but we love her anyway.
Sherman, Shiloh, Hallee, and Callee are brothers and sisters who are 4 1/2. (see below for more about them)
"The Bagel Shop Cats" are 3 siblings - Snowy, Mr. Squeaks, and Molly. (see their story below)
Mittens is around 5 or 6 and white with tiger colored spots. She gets her name because she's got some mitts if I've ever seen them - the good old extra toe on each paw.
And then there's my baby, Magic. He is 6 months old and the light of our home! He is all black and long and thin - our nickname for him is Slinky.
How we met:
I found Charlie one February night almost 13 years ago as I left a restaurant where I worked. He was rolling around on the sidewalk outside the restaurant and as friendly as could be. Since the restaurant was located on a very busy highway, I couldn't even think about leaving him there, so I brought him home. I thought about the fact that he could have been someone's pet, but decided that even if he was, they weren't taking very good care of him if he was outside near a highway in the freezing cold! My vet confirmed that he was not taken care of because he had not been neutered (and he was about a year old), he was as thin as could be, and he smelled like motor oil (which indicated that he had been sleeping on car engines to keep warm). From the day he came home from the vet's office (neutered and with a clean bill of health) he parked his butt in front of the food dish and never left it, except to sleep! He has gone from being a bag of bones to a big, fat purring tiger!
Tessie was found by my son in a dumpster outside his high school. She was only 4 weeks old and we had to bottle feed her for a few months...well, my vet told me I should have stopped sooner, but having 3 teenage boys (and no more bottles or baby stuff) I kept on bottle feeding her. She was spoiled rotton and got to be a chubster like her older brother. Now she is just b****y as can be, but will snuggle once in a while, and on HER terms.
Sherman, Shiloh, Hallee, and Callee - They were rescued by my sons while I was at work one summer day 4 years ago just before a major thunderstorm. Their mom had brought them and two siblings (who we found homes for) and left them behind my neigbor's AC unit. Sherman is an orange tabby and the in line to the throne when Charlie passes it down to him. Shiloh and Hallee (my twins) are gray and white and the only way to tell them apart is that he is bigger than her. Callee (the runt of thr litter) is a tiny, little lady who is, guess what, a Calico. :) She is very timid and adorable at the same time.
The Bagel Shop Cats - They are all gray and white with different markings. I had just dropped my dogs off at the groomers one sunny November day 4 years ago and Molly found me just outside the bagel shop. She was very friendly and led me to her brothers. They were obviously homeless cats, but nonetheless very friendly and downright affectionate. I fed them every day on my lunch break and each day Snowy would try to get in my car. I already had 7 cats, so I hesitated. Then winter came and we had an early blizzard (2 feet of snow!) and so I brought them home, one by one, including Molly and her litter of kittens that had been born in the interim. Luckily, we found homes for all 4 of her kittens, but sadly no one wanted the grown ones. They are as affectionate as can be, and have claimed my bed as their territory.
Mittens came to us one summer day as she wandered into our backyard. She was immediately friendly, but since entering the multi-pet home has become a bit nasty. We have taken a guess on Mittens' life prior to wandering into our yard, and have concluded that someone booted her out for being nasty, and most like it was a woman because she loves my boys, but I am usually the target of her evil.
And now for my Magic....I have been feeding a feral cat, whom I named Midnight, for about a year and a half. She has since had litters, but we usually only saw one kitten, and sadly, before we could catch them, they disappeared. :( Midnight's most recent litter was born on 4/13/07 and we actually saw 2 kittens this time. We set the kindness trap out and hungry little Magic ran right in! We've had him since mid-June and he has made friends with everyone in our home! My youngest son nurtured him from Day 1 and they sleep together. He is a spunky and affectionate little guy who lights up our lives. (Kitten #2 is now living in our vent! We caught her as well, but she has led us on a wild goose chase for the past 5 1/2 weeks as she will not

Wow, I just can't believe it, Rosemary. When oh when will your sad saga end? Next time she's out, I agree, keep her in a cage and bolt that vent up so that not even a fireman could get in!!
Hi! Good thing you closed off that vent, since she hasnt yet realized how good she has it now that she's out. But it sounds like she's getting there. I love love love that she snuggled in bed with your son.
Ok, I'll hold off on telling your story since you want to submit it to the mag, which is a great idea. So glad she's out. Are you sticking with the name Daisy?
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay times a thousand! Times a million! When you get back from work, can you post in Catsville? Everyone will be as happy as you and I are! I really want to write up her story! Maybe I'll wait a bit to see how she bonds with you, so it can be even more of a success story!
Amazing work, Rosemary! And thank that smart neighbor for us!
Rosemary,
Oh yes, how alike we are... you are just as "pet rich in love" and "pet poor $$$" as I am! I have no intention of adding any more strays! We'll see... LOL
Hi Rosemary,
I'm really sorry, but unfortunately in order to make way for this cool updated community, we had to get rid of the old one, and that means the discussions too :(
