hello and welcome to aspca please check out my groups big cats that need our help and animal.net and cheap and easy ways to help and pet finder and animal cruelty stories
three weeks of antibiotics will show no improvement on bloodwork. its wasted money. You dont retest cats for bartonella for 6 months after the 21 day treatment. So if you didnt already do it, please don't bother.. just keep him indoors, and if you have any other cats get them tested and treated if need be.. but there is no reason to test, he could very well come bcak positive for no reason. this is all stuff that my vet AND the vet specialist told me.
hi there. I'm glad that my post about bartonella was useful to you. The test that they do for bartonella is a blood test. They test for specific antibodies that are present only when you have bartonella. The tests are usually done at a diagnostics place, around here we have Quest Diagnostics. They test for IgM (which are the antibodies present with a local infection) and IgG which are the antibodies present with a systemic infection, which is what I have.
My general practisioner doctor also did not know much about the testing process OR the treatment so she refered me to an infectious disease specialist, i suggest you do the same so you get the right care. ALso, if you are positive, please let me know, i have someone who is interested in studying cases with people who test positive for Bartonella. He is a vet, but he has helped me A LOT and he can probably help you too.
