Dear Kendra,
I'm so happy that you got my message. To know that losing my precious Abby may have saved your cats gives me some sense of peace that I haven't felt since she died. I miss her so much it physically hurts. Bless you, Mary

Do you have a nueter/spay program? Who will pick up the cost for that? You would definatly want them altered before you adopt them back out. We have very little adoptions for cats/kittens,, you can walk down the street and it's nothing to see 20 cats in a one block area. I would find out the cost of a program to alter the cats, do some research on vet cost and find the cheapest vet, some vets will give discounts. I know there is goverment money out there to help with cost

Kendra, if you are working alone it would be a lot more work, I'm not sure how big your town is, also there are so many cats, we have a hard time getting them adopted, what would you do in a case like that? How long would you hold the cats? I don't have an ordinance for xats in my county, if I did there is no way I could keep up. It is hard enough with all of the calls I get on everything else, please let me know what you decide.

Thank you for your help. I haven't bathed either of my cats in awhile just because they hate it so much. I may just have to do it. Any kind of shampoo referral?

thanks for the blog comment, I had a hard time with that, nobody cared that this was a living animal not just something to make money off. Animals deserve better

Hi Kendra, Thanks for the comment. I'm glad to hear that you're following your dream of working with animals. I've had the shelter for ever and worked in a factory, my midlife crisis sent me back to school as an english major so I could write about animals and then one thing led to another and I got a job as a Vet Assistant. Sadly it's true, most states do allow Assistants to be hired without any formal training and those that have gone to school don't always start out at a higher pay. The advantage to the training is that you that much closer to becoming a Tech. What I did was work as an assistant, absorbing as much training as I could until, studied at the library in my spare time and eventually challenge the state exam and passed. That's what I would suggest you do. Don't go back to school just to be a tech. If you find a good clinic with good Doctors, you will learn SO MUCH MORE with 2 years of real experience than you will from the books in class. Most clinics even encourage and pay for continuing education for their assistants. They want you to always strive to update your skills.
I hope this novel helps you out. Feel free to talk to me anytime you have a question. I love talking shop.
