Do you think that it's possible that a soul that was in a human can reincarnate in that of a dog? I know this sounds absolutely ridiculous. But there are times when I look in the eyes of Bonito, I see someone more than a dog looking back at me, thoughtful... I've met many dogs and I've never seen this in any of them.
On another note, a year and a half ago, Bonito was attacked by a bigger dog and he hid and curled up under a parked car, probably in some form of shock, since he's never been one to shy away from a fight. A little while later, a man entered the car and turned on the motor. But because Bonito was so upset, he decided not to move. The car pulled out of the parking space and drove over his hip and head. Bonito yelped, and hobbled down to the lakes and disappeared for a few weeks. I was sure that we would find him dead under a bush in the park. When he reappeared, he couldn't move his right hind leg... However, after adopting him and then sending him out of the city to live with a friend of ours in cow and coffee country, he slowly regained use of that leg. However, when he is sad, like when we visit him and are about to leave, he starts limping again... It's absolutely heartbreaking.
The thing is that right after we adopted Bonito (removed him from the streets), we were given an opportunity to travel throughout the country selling coffee in giant fairs 85% of the year. So, we asked our friend Conchita if she could care for him. He's absolutely happy exploring the farmland, chasing burros and baby bulls and playing with other farm dogs and the farm children, barking at horses that pass by, etc... However, I am like a father to him and everytime I leave Conchita's house, I feel that I've deserted him again as is shown in his limp. Earlier on, when he saw us get into the truck to leave, he left conchita's house first and headed up the road in the direction we were going in. I would stop the truck and he would stop. But, upon getting out and walking in his direction, he would continue walking as if to say, I know what you're doing, I know where your going and you're not going to bring me back to Conchita's house. You best leave me be to walk infront of your truck the 20 miles until we reach home... Somehow we managed to grab him and put him in the truck. He was shivering from nerves and wimpering... But, we were about to leave for the other side of the country the following day. The least we could do was leave him with Conchita who also loves and cares for him.
We've adopted 2 dogs dumped in the street. Now both of them live outside of the city in homes with a lot of land, be it farmland or forrest. The second dog is Danza. She was no more than 4 months old when someone dumped her in the lakes on Children's Day, when many families were with their children in the parks... So, someone thought they would do her a favor by dumping her in the Lakes... No one saw her until we were packing up our cupcake stand to return home... Danza lives with my in-laws now in their coffee plantation with 2 male dogs, Jarochi (a German Shephard mix) and Scooby, a male German Shephard who hid for 10 days while she was in heat... What's up with that. Danza gave birth to six puppies when we were selling in Acapulco in December and those six puppies died when we were selling in Colima and Nayarit in February and March. I asked Margarita what happened and she said that Danza decided not to feed them. I believe that it was more than that...
