Profile

My website or blog:
http://aspca.org/cruelty
Proud pet parent of:
Several dogs and cats lovingly referred to as "The Kids" in my household. One of my kids is named Chet and he is a Chihuahua mix that I rescued from a shelter in Texas.
How we met:
I was in Texas appeaaring at a conference for animal cruelty issues and I visited the local animal shelter. As I was looking at all of the amazing pups they had for adoption, my eyes locked on this little fawn colored Chihuahua mix who was sitting in a cage just staring at me and wagging his tail as if to say " OK, I'm ready to get out of here now". So, that was all it took and now he lives with me and my husband and the rest of the crew.
Pet likes:
Chet loves to sit in the sun. It must be because he is from Texas and likes the warmth of the sun on his back. I have to pick him up and carry him inside when it is time to come in the house because he would stay outside all day in the summer if I let him.

Dear Ms. Lucas:

I have a very special request. I live in Greensboro, NC, and work at the NC Humanities Council (336.334.5704). A co-worker's young daughter is in the hospital very ill with complications from cystic fibrosis. You are her hero. Though she of course can't have pets, she adores them. Would you consider sending her a card or giving her a quick phone call? I know you get requests like this all the time, but this little girl is extra-special and I'm sure your call would be healing for her. She's going on her third week in the hospital with possibly 3-4 more ahead. Much thanks, Jennifer

Annemarie, You are one of my heroes. I feel that word is overused these days, but you are a true one. I love that you help animals and you get the job done. It's great to see someone tough and intelligent take action for animals who would otherwise be neglected or abused. Keep up the good work. You're the best!!!

You are a hero! I thank you and your officers for everything you do! Animals are soo important to me and I'm glad that someone like you takes the pride in saving animals lives. I wish everyone could see how special animals are. I wish there was people like you in the town I live in. You wouldn't believe how many awesome animals get put down in this town bc people don't care. Even the law enforcement doesn't care. It is the least of our problems they say. If its the least of our problems then why are we putting down so many animals in this town. They say they cant afford an animal control officer. How do they figure that? They should add up how much money they spend a month to put these animals down. When they can spend good money to keep these animals alive and give them a fighting chance. It just saddens me.

hey annemarie She's a yellow pair of running shoes
A holey pair of jeans
She looks great in cheap sunglasses
She looks great in anything
She's I want a piece of chocolate
Take me to a movie
She's I can't find a thing to wear
Now and then she's moody

She's a Saturn with a sunroof
With her brown hair a-blowing
She's a soft place to land
And a good feeling knowing
She's a warm conversation
That I wouldn't miss for nothing
She's a fighter when she's mad
And she's a lover when she's lovingAnd she's everything I ever wanted
And everything I need
I talk about her, I go on and on and on
'Cause she's everything to me

She's a Saturday out on the town
And a church girl on Sunday
She's a cross around her neck
And a cuss word 'cause its Monday
She's a bubble bath and candles
Baby come and kiss me
She's a one glass of wine
And she's feeling kinda tipsyI wanna be the smile
you put on your face
I wanna be your hands
when you say your grace
I wanna be whatever
is your favorite place, oh
I just wanna be close
I wanna be the hat you put on your head
I wanna be the sheets
you put on your bed
I wanna be the skirt
wrapped around your legs
Oh, I just wanna be closeShe's the giver I wish I could be

Hi Annemarie,
I have an update on the animals who were found in a closed shelter (HCSPCA) here is the link. It looks like the authorities are already aware of the situation. Now we keep our fingers crossed these people are held responsible for these poor, helpless animals.
Keep up the great work!

Hi Annemarie,
I have a question, in the state of NJ it's said to report abuse to the SPCA...who do I go to if the said abuse was done by the SPCA?
I cannot for the life of me understand that those who are suppose to help and protect our innocent animals are those that abuse and neglect them.
Something has to be done and someone needs to be held accountable for what has been discovered at a local (closed) shelter. I just don't know who else to go to?????????????? Thanks for any suggestions as to who I should report this to. Although these innocent animals suffering and pain has ended my heart aches for them. Member and concerned citizen.
