Proud pet parent of:
Chuggers - Cockatiel
George - Beta Fish
Baby & Rascal - Dachshunds
How we met:
I actually found Chuggers in my driveway when I was in 8th grade. I coaxed him with pine cone seeds and managed to get bird food from a neighbor. We kept him in a rabbit hutch (which my parents brought home their two puppies in from Trader's Village), and he's been my companion ever since. Chuggers used to play with my parents' two dogs, and even thought he was a dog himself! When the dogs barked, he'd screech right along with them! Eventually Chuggers and I found a good daddy for him (my loving husband), and we are currently living happily ever after.

I purchased George at a Wal-Mart. The other fish (God bless them) were hanging in there, but they all looked discolored and sickly, except for George. He's a beautiful maroon color with green and blue reflective scales. I've had him now for about two months.

Baby and Rascal (brother and sister) are my parents' dogs that I grew up with for the past 11 years. We found them as puppies at Trader's Village in Canton, TX. There were three puppies left, and we took home Baby (boy, and his sister (Rascal). I do hope the third puppy (their brother) found a wonderful and loving home.
Pet likes:
Chuggers is one of those birds where they have to get used to things slowly. He LOVES eating what you are. Every once in awhile, I indulge him with a small potato chip, popcorn piece, or anything he wants to try that I'm currently eating. He certainly is a strange little guy! He is really fascinated by shiny objects (trust me, I know. He recently plucked the diamond from my wedding ring out of the setting!), and is really good about finding lost earrings on the floor. He also really likes exploring the house and sitting on his cage.

George is, well, a fish. They eat, poop, and swim. That's about it. Though it is really cute when he swims up to the side of the bowl with his gills up and thinks he can take you on in a fight.

Baby & Rascal like to eat carrots and Chuggers's bird food, amongst other things. They love to lay out in the backyard on a sunny afternoon, then snooze on the couch next to you all day. Baby lays at the top of the couch (behind your head) like a cat, and Rascal sleeps under the couch. Rascal likes dressing up and having her picture taken (See profile photo).
Pet dislikes:
Chuggers doesn't really like people messing with him that isn't me or his daddy. He doesn't like small children (since they tend to bang on his cage), and other people poking their fingers through the bars (which happens frequently).

George just doesn't like other betas, which is in his nature anyway. Though he does hate it when I have to take the fish net and chase him around his tank to catch him when it's bowl cleaning day. He has to swim around in a 16 oz. Solo plastic cup for a bit, which is quite a change for him.

Baby & Rascal are pretty easy going. They hate to have their nails trimmed (they were born with their blood vessels too long in their nails, so even the vet is shocked when he cuts them and they start gushing blood), and they don't like it when we leave to work during the day (we don't lock them up, so they just sit at the fence and bark/whine).
Pet’s favorite spot:
Chuggers - Cage door or on his perch next to his mirror.

George - The bottom of the tank, near his glow-in-the-dark anemone.

Baby & Rascal - The couch!
Pet’s favorite toy:
Chuggers - His mirror (birds are VERY narcissistic) or his bell.

George - Sea anemone or his floating lily pad.

Baby & Rascal - They really don't like toys. They just like each other's company.
Pet’s silliest habit:
Every morning, Chuggers latches his talons to the cage door and beats his wings like crazy! It looks like he's trying to take off with the cage and fly high into the sky!

George - Resting at the bottom of his tank, on top of his pebbles. My mom was taking care of him while I was on my honeymoon, and when she came home, George was laying at the bottom of the tank, not moving. She thought the silly fish had died and started to worry. She tapped the side of the fishbowl, and he shot up and swam around the tank, startling her. Haha, silly fish...

Baby & Rascal - They like to chase the evil squirrels in the back yard. Those squirrels will sit there and tease them, and right when they are within catching distance, they will sprint and climb up the trees to safety.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
Chuggers - When he's sleeping. Or when he's scared of the shadow on the wall, and just wants to be near you to protect him. OR when he's in the shower, getting rained upon, and he runs and climbs on your feet, like a chick seeking shelter from it's mother. It's adorable!

George - When he sees your finger near the top of the tank, he knows it's feeding time, and swims up. He'll even take some of it out of your pinched fingers!

Baby & Rascal - They have some kind of sense of when I'm upset. They love to give kisses and cuddle and hug, especially when they know you are upset. Also, they used to sleep with me at night, and they'd snuggle right up to me (before I got married and moved away).
I crack up when my pet:
Chuggers - tries to fly to his cage from the couch (he has his wings clipped), and misses by a long shot. At my old apartment, the table was flush against the counter (with cage) and the couch. He would walk across the table, over any obstacle that happened to be there, and stare at the cage (you can just see the wheels turning in his little feathered head!). He would jump, flap, and use any object that would give him extra leverage, and would make it up to his cage! It's soooooo cute!!!!

George - When he scares people half-to-death by playing dead. It's mean, but it's really funny.

Baby & Rascal love to play chase through the house (since we have rooms that all connect (living room to hall to den to kitchen, back to living room)). First you start by chasing them, and then when you catch them, you start running, and they will run after you. Then they get smart and will go the opposite direction and wait for you to run into them.
My pet is unique because:
Chuggers has quite a personality! He can be so needy and screech after you if he can't see you one minute, and then act like he doesn't need you the next. He's so complex, but he's super smart. He can traverse an obstacle course to get back to his home (cage).

George - Well, he's a fish, and does fish things. They only have an attention span of about 2-3 seconds, you know! But he has the most amazing coloring, with the rich reds and blues and greens.

Baby & Rascal - There are so many reasons why I think my dogs are unique, but the most obvious reason of all is because they are mine. No other dogs can say that. But really, there are just too many things to list. Their ability and will to take care of each other and their human members of their pack. The way they love and protect us. Their inseparability. Their little 'spidey' senses that tell them when you are happy, angry, or sad and just need to cuddle and have a hug (or a shoulder to cry on!).

PRAYER .... FOR ANIMALS

"Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful."
Amen

Rowdy

I must start out by saying how much I love my dog, how proud of him I am, and how I respect all that he's been through. When Rowdy was a VERY young puppy, he and his 7 siblings were dumped off at a puppy rescue home. Seeing that he was a bit skinny when we picked him up, I think he had to fight his siblings over food (though otherwise, he was VERY well taken care of). Well, a week before my husband and I drove to MO, an individual dropped off four puppies with Parvo on the stoop of the rescue h… Continue
